Juan was born in Mexico, and came to Arizona at a very early age. He has been in Florence over 80 years. Marina was born here in Florence as were several of their children. Juan and Marina were married here in Florence at the Assumption Parish. Marina and Juan had 4 boys, 1 girl, they also adopted 3 other girls, a total of 8 children. Juan had a wood cutting business before he and Marina opened the store known as "Juan's Market". These two businesses were located on South Main street.

Marina was a Housewife, mother, and storekeeper. This was her full time job. They also built a 5 bedroom house next to the store. This house is where they all lived. The house still stands today. Juan still lives there today with his grand daughter Marina, her husband, and their children. Juan also worked at the Arizona State Prison many years. Mrs. Gutierrez passed away July 1972. Since then two of their children have passed away, 1 boy, Amado, 1 girl, Maggie. Juan had a birhday this past May. He is now 95 years old. For his age, his mind is very alert. He gets around the house good, but needs a cane. He still remembers a lot of things from the past. From the total of 8 children, the family grew to 45 grandchildren, 81 great grandchildren, and 15 great great grandchildren.
