Family Histories: The Lopez-Feliz Family
Reverend Bryan W. Sherry Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church P.O. Box 550 Florence, Arizona 85232
Dear Father Sherry,
Responding to the request for family background, church occasion memories, and our family members, I have compiled a little information which I hope will be useful for the anniversary book.
Jenny Brown born in San Bernardino, California and Cruz Lopez, born in Yuma, Arizona, were married in Yuma in the year 1893. They had two sons and two daughters, Miguel, Fernando, Mary and Theda. Fernando was born in Picacho, Arizona on May 30, 1900.
Carmen Salazar was born in Sonora, Mexico on April 24, 1864. She came with her parents to this country at the age of two years. Jesus Feliz was also born in Mexico on December 25, 1851. He was fourteen years old when he came to the U.S. Carmen and Jesus were married in 1885 at the Church of The Assumption in Florence. They had four sons, Salvador, Pedro, Juan, and Manuel. They also had three daughters, Cuca, Carmen, and Encarnasion "Chona". Chona was born February, 1894.
On December 20, 1923, Ramona Wolven Feliz and Pedro S. Feliz stood as sponsors of matrimony for Fernando B. Lopez and Encarnasion "Chona" Feliz, as they were married, at the Church of The Assumption, by the Reverend Basil Delgado. They had four children, Fernando, Virginia, Dorothy Caroline, and Hilbert "Mitchi", who deceased on August 14, 1995. All four of their children were baptized and confirmed at the Assumption Church.
On August 1945, Virginia Lopez and Alfonse Velasquez, of Redwood City, California, were married at the Church of The Assumption. Dorothy Caroline Lopez and Thomas E. Lopez, son of Refugia Quesada and Thomas McClellan Lopez, were also married at the Assumption of The Blessed Virgin Mary Church in Florence, on February 1950, by the Reverend Joseph Jacques. Dorothy and Thomas had one child, Jenny Arlene, born November 1960, who was also baptized and confirmed at the Florence church.
May the 125th church anniversary celebration be one of great success and of many fond memories to all.
Sincerely,
Return
