Family Histories: The Lopez Family
Dear Reverend Bryan:
This is a letter in response to Frank A. Celaya’s request regarding the history of the Lopez Family and its close association with the Church of the Assumption in Florence, Arizona.
It was in the early 1800’s that the families of Victoriano Lopez and Francisca Robledo left their home of Imuris, Sonora, Mexico, and settled in the town of Adamsville, near Florence. They raised a family of four brothers, and a sister. Their names were Victoriano, Jose, Ramon, Francisco, and Jesusita. Francisco, the youngest of the brothers, was born on September 8, 1875, in Adamsville, and married Maria Luisa Ochoa Delci, about 1904 or later. The family became farmers and moved across the Gila River, approximately six miles from Florence proper. There, they raised a family of four brothers and five sisters. The following are their names: Enrique, deceased; Andres, deceased; Manuel, deceased; Frank A., aged 74, and now residing in Moreno Valley; Maria, deceased; Rita, deceased; Ofelia, deceased; Margarita, aged 82; and Maria, aged 77. Margarita lives in Phoenix and Maria lives in San Jose, California. All of the above mentioned children, while living in Florence, received their religious training and were baptized in the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church.
Frank A. and his sister, Margarita, plan to attend the celebration of the 125th Anniversary on November 18, 1995.
Sincerely yours,
Frank A. Lopez
