Oct. 8, 1995

Dear Father Sherry:

I hope that the 125th anniversary celebration being planned for November will be a big success and that there will be a big turn out. Following is the Lopez Family History.

On my father's side, his grandfather was Thomas McLellan, who came from Scotland. I don't know what year. I have a copy of his voter registration that shows his age at the time as 32 years old and that he was from Scotland. His grandmother's name was Mercedes Marguez and she was born in California. They had nine children: Mercedes Arvizu, Elena Lopez, Lilly Delci, Maria Cruz, Inez Robles, Sara Cruz, Margaret Cathemer, two boys; Robert and Roy. Roy was killed during the first World War and is one of the two that the American Legion Post is named after. His father's name was Carlos Lopez and his mother's name was Elena McLellan. Carlos was born in Mexico at Altar, Sonora and Elena was born in Florence. They had eleven children, all born in Florence. Two were boys, Thomas and Charles, and nine were girls, Mercedes Wolven, Agnes Robles, Josefa Vasquez, Elena Garcia, Carmen Knight, Rita Gobell, Anita Salinas, Virginia Harrell, and Lucia Barton. They are all deceased except Mercedes, Rita and Virginia.

On my mother's side, her grandfather was Jose Angel Osuna. He was born in Mexico, but I don't know what city or state. Her grandmother was Secundia Lugo and she was born in a small town called Palomias, close to Mazatlan, Sinaloa. My mother's mother was Refugia Osuna and her father was Ramon Quesada. They had two children, Refugia and Raymond. My mother was born in Mazatlan. She came to Florence at the age of five years old and became a naturalized citizen on May 18, 1943. Raymond was born in Florence. My father and mother were married in Florence on January 7, 1924. They had five children, three boys and two girls; Roy, Thomas, Alex, Eleanor Aguilar and Beatrice Leon.

Sincerely,

Eleanor Lopez Aguilar
