Family Histories: The Moraga Family

Carlos T. Moraga Family
P.O. Box 1733
Florence, AZ 85232

Reverend Bryan W. Sherry. J.C.L.
Church of the Assumption
221 E. 8th St.

Florence, AZ 85232

November 3,1995

Dear Fr. Sherry,

The Carlos T. Moraga Family wishes to extend our congratulations to the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church, and all its parish members, on the glorious occasion of the 125th Anniversary of the founding of this beloved institution.

The history of the Moraga Family parallels that of the Church, however, its stay in Florence has not been as long. Our grandfather, Joaquine Moraga, settled in Florence about 1885. He married Rafaela Telles and had two daughters and one son, Carlos (1901-1993), who was our father. In 1924, Carlos married Margarita Rangel and raised six sons in Florence. One by one, each of the sons left Florence to pursue their careers and raise their own families, but kept returning for family functions and special occasions. Our last family function took place in January, 1994, when we laid our father to rest. In attendance were his six sons twenty-one grandchildren and forty great-grandchildren. The six brothers as follows:

Joaquin born in 1925
Rodolfo " " 1927
Lindolfo " " 1932
Eligio " " 1935
Carlitos " " 1937
James " " 1945

Again, our family wishes to acknowledge this historical event and join in the celebration of this glorious occasion.

Sincerely,

Charles R. Moraga
