Family Histories:

REMIGIO/RAMIREZ FAMILY

November, 1995

Reverend Bryan W. Sherry, J.C.L.
Church of the Assumption
221 East 8th St.
Florence, Arizona 85232

On behalf of the Remigio and Ramirez family, I am writing this letter to our priest to congratulate him on the 125th anniversary celebration of our Assumption of Mary Parish of Florence, Arizona.

Our parents, Andres Cortez Remigio and Guadalupe Yturralde, were married in New Mexico by our uncle, Reverend Flavio Remigio. Our parents had nine children and two are deceased. Aurora, Emily, Andres, and Manuel were born in New Mexico. In April 1937, we moved to Ray Sonora, Arizona, where my father worked in the mine. My parents had 3 more children, Jesus (Chuie), Margaret, and Flavio. My father became ill and Doctor Tucker sent him to Florence Pinal General Hospital. In October 1941, we moved to Florence. My father passed away in December of 1942.

We looked for a Catholic Church and found our church across from Florence Elementary School. We became good friends with our priest, Reverend Joseph Dominic Jacques. The Assumption Parish has been our church for 54 years. As long as we live in Florence, Arizona, the Assumption Parish will be our parish.

These are the children and great grandchildren of our parents, Andres and Guadalupe Remigio.

Aurora has six children; Virginia, Barbara, Andrew Jr.(deceased), Leo, Larry, and Lucy. She has 18 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. Aurora is very devoted to her church. She walks every Saturday to church.

Emily has 7 children, 3 are deceased. Anna Marie, Joe Robert, John Raymond, and Yolanda are living. I have 8 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. All my children received their sacraments in Assumption Church. My son, Joe, belonged to the C.Y.O. John was an Altar Boy, and Yolanda belonged to the youth choir directed by Mrs. Shepard. I, Emily, have taught catechism for many years and served 2 years as coordinator. I was a member of the Altar Society, Legion of Mary, English Choir with Mrs. Shepard, Assumption Mariachi Group, and I help in the kitchen during Bingo. I help in the Sacristy office when needed and also for Cinco de Mayo. I really enjoy doing anything for the Assumption Church.

Andres has 6 children (twin babies, deceased); Andy Jr., Eva, Graig, Pricilla, Emily, and Adrian. He also has 12 grandchildren. Andy Jr. is a server at Mass. Adrian was an Altar Boy.

Manuel has 4 children; Adriana, Jennifer, Sandra, and Denise. He has 3 grandchildren and is expecting another very soon.

Jesus (Chuie) had 3 children; Patricio, Kimberly Ann, and Angelica Maria. He also had 2 grandchildren. Chuie passed away in July, 1994 and was a member of the Knights of Columbus.

Margaret has 6 children, Frances, Lupe, Amado Jr., Charles, Tony, and Martin. She has 17 grandchildren, 1 deceased, and 6 great grandchildren.

Flavio has 5 children and 5 grandchildren and is expecting another one soon. He comes to Mass when he visits Florence.

Later on, my mother, Guadalupe, married Miguel Ramirez in the Assumption Church. They had 2 children. My step-dad passed away July, 1976. He belonged to Assumption Parish.

Maria Angelina had 6 children, Rachel, Richard Jr., Thomas Michael, Albert, Laurence, and Dolores. She had 14 grandchildren. Mary and her husband, Richard Lopez, were married in Assumption Church and belonged to the singing group. Mary passed away April, 1991.

Mike Ramirez has five children, Adam, Marnie, Kelly, and Courtney. One boy is deceased. Mike has 3 grandchildren. He plays lead guitar for the Mariachi Group.

The Remigio and Ramirez families have been close to Assumption Parish and have received Baptism, Confirmation, and Marriage Sacraments.

Sincerely yours in Christ,

Emily Remigio Padilla
