Family Histories:

Gabriel M. Salazar FAMILY

October 24, 1995

Reverend Bryan W. Sherry, J.C.L.
Church of the Assumption
221 East 8th St.
Florence, AZ. 85232

Dear Reverend Sherry:

The Gabriel Salazar Family extends their best wishes to the Assumption of Mary Parish on their 125th anniversary celebration.

Gabriel’s grandfather, Mateo, was born in Mexico and, in 1840, settled in Florence, Arizona. He built a home in Florence for his family and later returned to Mexico where he was laid to rest in 1901. Mateo’s son, Andres, was born in 1872. Andres had two daughters and five sons, one of which was Gabriel Salazar, born in March of 1906.

Gabriel’s father, Andres, raised his family in Florence, Arizona. Andres provided assistance to our church by laying brick for its construction. Andres was laid to rest in 1930 at the Florence Cemetery.

Gabriel married Mary Meneses in 1936 and raised eight children in Florence. Mary passed away in July of 1982. Gabriel has some fond memories of our church, especially of Father Jacques. Father Jacques would visit Gabriel’s home every month for a haircut.

Many of the Salazar Family still reside in Florence, Arizona and are members of our local church parish. This church has been an integral part of our family’s lives and will continue to be for the generations to come.

Again, best wishes and congratulations on this 125th anniversary.

The Gabriel Salazar Family
