The Canossian
Eduplex {Education Complex} was conceived in 1993 in response
to the need of better immersion and integration of
hearing-impaired children in a mainstream Primary School.
Moreover, the plan to relocate Canossian School for the
Hearing Impaired (CSHI) back to its former premise at
Sallim Road, coincided with the plans to upgrade Canossa
Convent Primary School, Magdalenes Kindergarten,
Canossaville Childrens Home and the Convent of the
Sisters. It took three years to rebuild and in 1999, the
Canossian Eduplex was completed.
The Eduplex
is the result of a bold dream and following in the footsteps
of St Magdalen, we forge ahead, reaching out to embrace all
persons in order to develop their full potential. The five
sectors of the Canossian Eduplex work in collaboration towards
a joint mission of Love, sharing resources, space, facilities,
maintenance of common grounds and working out ways and means
to give a holistic and effective education to the children.
Special attention is given to those with hearing difficulties
and families in greater need of assistance.
To continue
sustaining the ministry of education, and given our limited
human resources, we are looking in the direction of creative
partnership with the laity. The laity have much to offer and
share with us ~ showing us how to better serve the many needs
of education in our society and the regions around us.
Celebrating
the Official Opening of the Canossian Eduplex on 3rd
March 2001 was a memorable and touching experience. Among the
four hundred invited guests were officials from the Ministry
of Education, the Ministry of Community Development and Sports
and the National Council of Social Services. Emeritus
Archbishop Gregory Yong was the Guest of Honour who unveiled
the plaque.
The spirit
and history of the Eduplex was vibrantly brought home with a
power-point presentation. In a heart-warming musical entitled:
Built on Love ~ Canossian style, the inspiration, vision and
mission of the Eduplex was succinctly captured.
