The deepening of the sources and reflections of the experiences of the
Canossian communities have made clear the permanence and relevance of this
3rd ministry, without which much would be lacking in an Institute which
bears the name of charity. It calls us to be creative today, as Magdalene
was in her time ~ to affirm the sacredness of life and to promote it to the
fullest. Rapid scientific progress, the different attitudes towards life and
the condition of the sick and elderly require the Sisters to face many
ethical and moral issues, in particular, with the different expressions of
the culture of death (euthanasia, abortion, etc.) and with the issues
related to bioethics. They are encouraged to face new challenges with
theological deepening ~ to nourish and exercise the charism in the light of
faith, within new conditions.
In serving the sick and
elderly, the aim is to lead them to experience God's goodness and should
they recover, to a greater fidelity to Him and ultimately towards a total
abandonment to His love at the time of death.
