News of the Sr Cecily Pavri's stepping down as Principal of St Anthony's Canossian Secondary came as quite a shock to many. 17 years at the helm of the school and she has now decided to move on to a different role, promising that she will still be involved in the school. Sr Cecily will continue to be on the School Management Committee and her heart is certainly with the staff and students. On 1 Nov 2002, the whole school gathered to thank God at the end of yet another year for all the blessings we received. The Catholic Activities Council together with their teachers led the school through a very meaningful reflection, using the story of the Giving Tree. Sr Cecily, as a symbol of her generous sharing of herself for the school, was invited to light the candles held by students.
The staff and students had planned a special farewell celebration within a short period, thus after the prayer service, Sr Cecily was ushered into the hall where the school concert band gave her rousing fanfare amidst loud clapping and cheers. Some special guests including ex-teachers, Sisters, service providers including Co-Curricular Activities instructors and a few special parent volunteers. Two special performances were put up in honour of Sr Cecily and speeches were made by the President of the Student Council, Reema Jagtiani on behalf of the staff ~ Mrs M Joseph, Mrs Jennifer Loh, Vice Principal and Ms Chua Bee Leng, Vice Principal (internal). Finally, Sr Cecily made her moving thank you speech, and reminded all students of their Canossian heritage and the need to uphold our core values and mission of the school. Students and staff also presented gifts to Sr Cecily. Taking her by surprise, the entire staff then went on stage to sing Sr Cecily a special song entitled "You will find me in your heart". She was moved to tears. The whole school then broke into a high note as they sang, "You will follow Him" (adapted from "I will follow you"). Sr Cecily was invited on stage and together with the staff sang and danced joyfully. |
