Every Thursday
from 7:15 am till 12 noon and again from 6:30 pm till 9:00 pm, the
Blessed Sacrament at the Sisters Chapel in St Magdalene's Community is
exposed for the purpose of world peace. Individual Sisters are
present for half-hourly adoration and the whole community comes
together for the final half hour.
Parents with
children in the Canossian Convent Kindergarten (CCK) and friends are
also invited to pray for world peace. During the day, the
children from CCK, are brought by their teachers to the Chapel for a
short adoration where they participate with prayers and songs.
Every first
Thursday of the month, the Sister-teachers at the CCK together with
their colleagues and non-teaching staff, spend about some some time
before the Blessed Sacrament. During this period there are
intercessions and peace prayers followed by the exchange of the sign
of peace. This has helped in bonding and reconciling the staff.
During the
weekly Assembly in the Kindergarten, the teachers also talk to the
children about peace.
This year the
CCK graduation ceremony and concert also had "Peace" as its
theme. The songs that were chosen for the students' dances and
recitals were related to peace.
On the first
anniversary of the September 11 bombing of the World Trade Center, as
a peace stance, the sisters had a memorial prayer service before the
Blessed Sacrament.
The CCK also
commemorated the anniversary with aboard decorated with newspaper
cuttings of the incident at the assembly hall. Candles prepared
by teachers were lit during the prayer service. The candles were
then brought back to the respective classes where the teachers further
explained the incident to the children and talked to them about the
importance of peace.
