I am a 50 year old artist. It was a 3-day self-discovering journey at the Spiritual centre for me where my psychological self and my spiritual self came to terms. I identified my psychological and behaviour problems with the values of my childhood upbringing. These values both positive and negative were retained by me and were conscious or unconsciously applied to my growing adulthood. They affected my mental, behaviour and social patterns, resulting in "a good or bad relationship" with myself, my environment both human and structural.
The solution to achieve true maturity in my spiritual adulthood, led me to analyse these patterns and to understand their limitations on me. Once I knew how they influence my mind and body behaviour, I can then proceed to integrate them into my spiritual qualities, and together, achieve the correct approach to living as a matured adult in my community. |
Anthony and I [Christine], are a husband-and-wife participant at the seminar on "Achieving Adulthood" by Father Michael McGuire. We were there to find out where we are, at our present adulthood and how God leads us out of the wilderness into His light. We have each come from very diverse past histories. We were not able to perceive one another in our daily lives and this was compounded by pressures imposed by work and money, in a society that thrives on instant actions, reactions and results. By participating in the seminar, we have come to realize and understand our introjections, our own selves and each other much more. This has allowed us to communicate more deeply, the definitions and accounts of our lives, so that as we learn we will be able to grow and move on together. We realize what it means to be more prayerful, to have continual dialogue with God; to stay calm, be still and arrive where He will call us to His light; so that by His mercy and grace on us, we will be able to walk in His strength. Thus, the understanding of this seminar, Achieving Adulthood, where we can align or realign our real selves, all that we are, with the presence and love of God. Amen. By: Christine Tan |

| Editor's Note: The sessions on Achieving Adulthood were held in LifeSprings, our Canossian Spirituality Center from 15-17 June 2002. There were about 70 participants, half of whom were laypersons from various walks of life. | |||
