Canossa Celebrates

The Sisters of Canossa Convent, Lay Canossians from Bakhita, Canossa, Caritas, Magdalene's Apostles Groups and friends celebrated the feast of St Magdalene on Saturday 10 May 2003. We were delighted to welcome Sr Angela Ng to our celebration, Sisters, Lay Canossians and some new friends greeted each other with smiles, handshakes and warm embrace. (SARS aside). Everyone was happy to meet up again.

The feast began with the Eucharistic Celebration with Fr Thomas Mathew as the Presider. In the homily Fr Thomas said that the Lord had gathered us together in one family, not only to celebrate the feast of St Magdalene, but more importantly to rededicate ourselves as disciples of Jesus and follow Him in the footsteps of St Magdalene. A meaningful and timely gentle reminder! Often one is so engrossed in our daily hectic life at work, in the family and in many activities that we neglect our spiritual life. Fr Thomas also directed us to look at Christ's life and the life of our Foundress posing questions that helped us reflect on our spiritual life. Are we captivated by the Spirit as our Foundress was? How much have we imbued the Spirit? If we see a need for us to do something to make a difference, are we able to say, "I must do something about it. I can do something about it. I will do something about it." Really food for thought…

Our spiritual banquet was followed by a simple but delicious home-cooked dinner, which everyone enjoyed amidst chatting, laughing and having fun. Sr Marion Liong was touched by the simplicity of the whole celebration where the spirit of warmth, joy and love shone. After dinner, everyone pitched in to help clear up the place, including mopping the floor. It was indeed a Family gathering!
