Though life begins at conception, real earthly life begins outside the mother's womb, when the newborn takes its first breath by its first cry ~ the cry of separation from the comfort and attachment of the mother's womb. The crying stops as the baby suckles the mother's breast and falls asleep in her caressing arms. Can the silent cry of a baby in the mother's womb be heard, when intuitively the baby knows something bad is going to happen - life is about to be terminated? The cry is inaudible, silent ~ not heard, what then? How can we hear such 'cries' and how can we help and make hope alive for such as these, our brothers and sisters, who are victims of unwanted and negative circumstances. Victims of childhood abuse and neglect ~ of a failed abortion? A victim of having been given life in a womb that had previously killed one's sibling[s]. Yes, you maybe deeply hurt and deeply damaged - living like the 'walking-dead'? Worse yet, perhaps even not knowing why! This was what was brought across to participants of the HOPE ALIVE training session in a weeklong intensive, residential training at the Canossian Lifespring Centre in Singapore. HOPE ALIVE is for those who are deeply damaged and are in need of help and healing and this begins with each one of us. There to train Hope Alive Group Counsellors, was the founder of HOPE ALIVE, Dr Philip Ney himself with his rich realm of Christian, medical and psycho-therapeutic knowledge and experiences. Accompanying him was a team of about 10 trainers and counselors from America. It was indeed an intense, and enriching experience for all, facilitators and trainers but especially for the eighteen trainees from various social walks of life. Healing by group counselling, as HOPE ALIVE provides, is not a panacea for all deeply damaged from pregnancy losses, childhood neglect and abuse. It is carried out with professional prudence and judgment in the selection of those, who can benefit most from this counselling method. Hope is certainly awakened and given life for those barely coping with or despairing in life. "Those who sow in tears shall rejoice when they reap."
