Current ECCCLC Objectives -
Post 1991
In 1991, the organizing committee modified the objectives into
the current version:
To enrich Christian faith through:
~ Dialectic and spiritual sharing
~ Christian community life
~ Chinese culture
The 1991 committee began by reviewing the vision and objectives
of ECCCLC. They agreed with the overall idea of the previous set
of objective. However, they thought some wordings needed to be modified
to better reflect the vision.
When one examines the older version, the three objectives have
a common goal. It is "to enrich Christian faith". Therefore,
it is used as the objective of ECCCLC in the new version.
The objective comes with three statements: dialectic and spiritual
sharing, Christian community life, and Chinese Culture. These are
the means the event will observe to achieve the objective. These
means, to a certain degree, reflect the characteristics of the event.
"Dialectic and spiritual sharing" and "Christian
community" are self-explanatory. They already exist in the
older version.
"Chinese culture" is added not as a new idea but to reflect
the nature of the Camp, which is an event for Chinese. Although
some people like reading English Bible and singing English songs,
all participants belong to Chinese faith communities. They all belong
to Chinese families. It is through these essences that we live out
our Christian faith. Therefore, "Chinese Culture" refers
to these "daily living culture" of the participants. It
is because of this distinct culture that these Chinese young people
come together.
