Our Mission on Earth

"Jesus said to the disciples, 'I came to bring fire to the earth, and how I wish it were already enkindled!'" (Lk 12:49) In a way, this bespeaks the very purpose of Christ's coming to earth and His greatest dream for us.

Fire, along with divine light, energy or living water, etc., is an Eastern Orthodox expression of grace. Christ came then to bring to the earth just that. He wishes it were already enkindled, energized, divinized, and therefore Heavenized. Indeed, when the whole world and everything in it (our heart especially) were filled with the fullness of God's grace, they would become Heaven on earth. As we are baptized as children of the Light, we are called to become the lights of the world, helping Christ the Light of the World to enlighten, divinize, energize or light up the world, setting it on fire. But we cannot do so unless our hearts are filled with God's grace, fire or living water, for "out of the believer's heart shall flow rivers of living water." (Jn 7:38)

Christ continues to bring fire to the world today, especially through the Holy Eucharist and Its unceasing radiation, transmitting His divine grace or energy to all. Apparently, we can be superabundantly filled with the grace or fire of Christ when we spend sufficient time before Him, e.g., attending Mass, receiving and praying before the Sacred Host. And then we can assist the Source of all graces to grace, bless or enkindle the world with our radiation of God's grace or energy in whatever we are called to be and do.

As everything ceaselessly radiates, we too unceasingly radiate, either our positive or negative energies mainly, or both simultaneously. At every moment, whether we know it or not, like or not, admit it or not, most of us either predominantly bless the world or contaminate it in varying degrees with our unceasing radiation, pouring out whatever energies we carry within. Energywise, it is hence our great responsibility to cooperate constantly with the plan of God and keep ourselves environmentally friendly, as well as sanctifying to ourselves and others.

The first (Gen 1:1) and the last verse (Rev 22:21) of the Sacred Scriptures may be linked in this way: God created the whole universe to be filled with the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ. When this divine economy is fulfilled, all creation (except Hell and those in it) will become Heaven. "The grace of the Lord Jesus be with all." (Rev 22:21 cf. its original Greek version) Commissioned as the lights of the world, we followers of Christ are indeed called to help our Lord and God in this process of transformation, divinization, energization, Heavenization or re-Heavenization in the history of salvation.

Glory be to God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit, glory be to the Most Holy Trinity, as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.
