Communication with Visitors* Spirit of the Living God, fall afresh on us! October 1 (P.S. Oct. 16) Dear Sisters and Brothers in Christ, October is the month in which we pay honor to our Guardian Angels. Of late years devotion to the angels has grown in popularity. So much so that a number booklets have been written on the subject of the angels. I have one such before me now entitled, All About Angels from the Editors of the Catholic Digest. And some years ago Billy Graham published a pamphlet on the Angels. This indicates belief that there are superiors beings whose support and aid we may invoke in times of need, in times of hardship, in times of difficulty. The Scriptures both Old and New have no hesitation referring to such angelic beings who from time to time into converse with humans And Catholics generally believe that each individual has the protection and support an angel guardian throughout life in this world for the journey to his eternal destiny. They set aside the month of October in recognition and in thanksgiving for this support in their earthly engagements. Yours sincerely in Christ and Our Heavenly Mother, Fr. Michael Lapierre, S. J. P.S. (Oct. 16) During this time when we are worried and fearful about our present security and our future prospects in a world deeply shocked by the extreme expressions of violence exhibited in the past month and affirmed to reoccur in the days to come, we should reflect seriously on the following declarations given us in the document titled The Church Today, issued from the Second Vatican Council. I quote them here.. The first reads, "God, who has fatherly concern for everyone, has willed that all men should constitute one family and treat one another in a spirit of brotherhood." The second, "God did not create man for life in isolation but for the formation of social unity." The third, "This solidarity must be constantly increased until the day in which it will be brought to perfection. Then, saved by grace, men will offer flawless glory to God, as a family beloved of God and of Christ their Brother." With this in view, we, as Christians, should make every effort to resolve in as just and peaceful a manner as possible the problems which have brought us to our conflict. * Fr. Michael Lapierre, S.J., and the editor John Cheng are currently taking part in this column. While the latter is doing January, March, May, etc., the former is partaking in February, April, June, etc. As usual, we take a summer break during July and August. The song in the background here is called "Immaculate Mary". Queen of the Holy Angels, pray for us!
