PARISH ORGINIZATIONS

Where could or should I be involved?

ALPHA— An introduction to Christianity; to grow ecumenically, to help your faith come alive.  In the fall, Wednesday mornings, from 12:45 pm to 2:30 pm starting September 14 and in the winter , in the evenings, starting February 15.  Contact Ann Matthews 763-7126.

BAPTISM PREPARATION: Two sessions to prepare families for the baptism of their children. Each session is of approx. 1 hour and 15 minutes each. Baptisms take place at 12:15 pm on the second Sunday of each month.  Next preparation dates are August 30 & 31 (7:00 pm) for September and October baptisms.

BEREAVEMENT SUPPORT GROUP:  A ten week support program for those grieving the loss of a loved one.  Starting Tuesday, Sept. 13 from 1 to 3 pm.  Ends Nov. 22.  Contact Ann at 868-1009 or Maureen 762-6783.

CATECHISM—Program for children, grades 1 to 7 inclusive, who attend public school.  Tuesdays 4:30—5:45 pm starting Sept. 13 to May 16.  We meet in church for prayer. We help to prepare children to celebrate sacraments.

CATHOLIC WOMEN’S LEAGUE—the general meeting is at 9:30 am the second Tuesday of the month in the Parish Hall.  For info, contact Marie Novakowski (861-4412) or check the bulletin. The CWL aims to aid its members to grow spiritually and to serve the parish and the community both locally and abroad.  Our CWL provide luncheon catering after funerals and at our bazaar and financially supports our parish and other organizations.

CURSILLO—Men’s Interdenominational Cursillo Weekend is September 22-25.  Coordinator is Rick Felton.   Women’s Interdenominational Weekend is October 27-30. Coordinator is Maddy Taylor.

DEVELOPMENT & PEACE  Annual Diocesan Meeting is September 23-25 at St. Charles Garnier Parish.  Phone Ann Matthews 763-7126 for more information.

KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS:  Father Pandosy Council 2558 is one of six Councils covering the Kelowna area.  A Catholic organization for Men who are giving unselfishly of their time and talents in the service of God and their country.  The Knights are dedicated to Charity, Unity, Fraternity and Patriotism and are known as the right hand of the Church.  Many local organizations receive funds and labour from the Knights.  The funds are raised from the Annual Charity Appeal, K of C Breakfasts and Bingo funds as well as other fund raising functions.  Father Pandosy Council General meeting is the first Tuesday of each month and a social is every third Tuesday

LEGION OF MARY—Serving the sick and elderly in Unity with Mother Mary.  Contact Jean 717-8883 or Phyllis 762-4732.  Meetings every Tuesday at 1:30 pm in Charity Hall.

LIVE-IN—to lead you to a deeper relationship with Jesus Christ.  The live-in will be take place Oct. 14-16 at Immaculate Church.  For info call Ann at 769-4665.

PARISH HEALING MINISTRY will meet with individuals for prayer to enable them to come before God with their need so they may experience God meeting that need in the most loving way possible.  For more info please contact Gabrielle Matte at 763-5222.

PRAYER MEETING is a gathering of people who learn to be led by the Holy Spirit through Scripture, teaching and singing (scriptural song).  If you want to know more join us on Tuesday, Sept 13 at 7 pm in the Bedford Room.  For info call Madeleine at 764-0642.

RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults) - An opportunity for those interested in becoming Catholics and for Catholics returning to Church.  We meet Thursdays in Charity Hall starting September 5 at 7:30—9:15 pm.  Contact Ann Matthews 763-7126

RCIC (Rite of Christian Initiation of Children):  There is a children’s version of RCIA available on Tuesday afternoons during catechism times.  This is a program designed for children joining the Catholic Church or those baptized as infants who need to prepare for the celebration of sacraments.  Contact Ann Matthews at 763-7126.

GROWING YOUNG FAMILIES: Do you want to deepen the ties within your faith community? Moms and children meet to share our faith stories and to celebrate the Church's seasons with prayer, crafts, Bible dramas, etc.  Our first monthly meeting is Wed. Sept. 21st from 10-11am in Charity Hall. Questions? Call Paula @ 762-7855.

ST. VINCENT DE PAUL SOCIETY is an organization that assists the poor.  Next meeting is Wednesday Aug.  17 at 7:30 pm in Charity Hall.  Regular meetings are the 2nd and 4th Wednesday of the month from September to June.  For more info contact Dana Webster at 861-7801.
