11th MAY 2008 : PENTECOST SUNDAY
Come. Holy Spirit! Come ...

Come, Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of Thy faithful and enkindle in them the fire of Thy love. Pentecost (Whitsunday), with Christmas and Easter, ranks among the great feasts of Christianity. It commemorates not only the descent of the Holy Spirit upon the Apostles and Disciples, but also the fruits and effects of that event: the completion of the work of redemption, the fullness of grace for the Church and its children, and the gift of faith for all nations ... Notification from the Bishop's Office to the Faithful of Kuwait

1st Unity Congress in Kuwait

First Unity CongressDear Brothers and Sisters,

Peace be with you! I am very happy to announce that on Sept. 4th (afternoon), 5th (all day) and 6th (morning), we shall celebrate our first Unity Congress in Kuwait.

What is a Unity Congress? It is an assembly of represen- tatives of the Laity of the Vicariate that will come together with the Bishop and Clergy, for a period of time (three days), during which we shall reflect on the reality of our Catholic Church in Kuwait. We shall give-receive some teachings which could help us to understand our reality as "People of God" in a deeper way. Hopefully, we shall reach some conclusions for our mission in Kuwait.

This short experience will be the first step which should lead us to a longer and more exhaustive research, normally called “Synod”. Therefore, the importance of this first step is like a test for us, to examine ourselves and see if we are ready to look within and discern: Is there a spirit of genuine belonging to the Catholic Church or a mere link to our individual nationality, culture, language and rite?

The theme is taken from the Gospel of St. John (17,22): That, they may be one. This verse shows us that, now, we are not one. Special particularities are still dominating the different communities of our Church. But this Word of Jesus also shows our hope that we will be one. Our hope is not in us, nor in our initiatives but only in Him. He is able to unite us. The Church is not ours, it is His! Unity doesn’t mean uniformity - one language and one rite for all. Unity must start first of all from our hearts. If it doesn’t we shall never realize any unity.

The preparation for the Congress has been made by a committee of 15 members from the different nationalities and rites of the Vicariate. I thank them for their generous collaboration for the good of our Church.

I ask you all to keep the Congress in your prayers from now onwards. In fact, it will be successful if we put prayer at its foundation: Unless the Lord built the house, they labor in vain who build it. (Ps 127,1)

Besides your prayers, I am asking also for your concrete participation through your advice and suggestions. Those interested in being part of this event may get their names registered in their Parish offices as soon as possible.

God bless you and your families.

Bishop Camillo Ballin, mccj
Vicar Apostolic of Kuwait

4th MAY 2008 : SOLEMNITY OF THE ASCENSION
While they looked on, He was raised up, and a cloud received Him out of their sight.

God our Father, make us joyful in the ascension of your Son Jesus Christ. May we follow Him into the new creation, for His ascension is our glory and our hope. We ask this through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. At the end of His earthly life Jesus ascends triumphantly into heaven. The Church acclaims Him in His holy humanity, invited to sit on the Father's right hand and to share His glory. But Christ's Ascension is the pledge of our own. Filled with an immense hope, the Church looks up towards her leader, who precedes her into the heavenly home and takes her with Him in His own person: ...

St. Joseph: Patron Saint of Workers

St. Joseph : Patron Saint of Workers, Pray for Us!This feast is celebrated on the first day of the month dedicated to the Blessed Virgin Mary. As Joseph (Foster Father of Jesus) was a carpenter (or a builder), he is also the patron saint of workers. Since 1955, "May Day" has been dedicated to labour and the working man. Pope Pius XII expressed the hope that this feast would accentuate the dignity of labour and bring a spiritual dimension to labour unions.

Eucharistic Amazement: Pastoral Letter of His Lordship Bishop Camillo Ballin, MCCJ

Eucharistic AmazementH.L. Bishop Camillo's Pastoral Letter of this year is on the Eucharist. The title of the Letter has been taken from the Papal Encyclical Ecclesia de Eucharistia, in which thrice Pope John Paul II described the Eucharist as "amazement".
The First Part of the Pastoral Letter explains in as simple terms as possible: the Biblical Roots of the Eucharistic Celebration, The Eucharist as a Sacrament of Unity, The Altar as Symbol of Christ and Music in the Liturgy. The Second Part of the Pastoral Letter closely examines the Liturgy of the Word. Each section of the Letter concludes with thought-provoking questions for a deeper understanding.

15th AUGUST 2007 : A CALL TO CARMEL SPIRITUALITY
A Call to Carmel: Calling all Catholics in Kuwait to be Enrolled in the Brown Scapular

THE BROWN SCAPULAR OF CARMELThose who wish to join the Brown Scapular Confraternity, may do so by first registering their names for the Scapular Enrolment Ceremony - the first of its kind to take place in the Vicariate Apostolic of Kuwait. Many of us wear the Scapular which makes us loosely connected with Carmel, whereas, valid enrolment in the Scapular ensures that we become a part of the Carmelite family and therefore share in all the prayers, privileges and spiritual good works of the Carmelite Orders. Above all, by enrolling ourselves, we are motivated to wear the Scapular with greater trust and dependence upon our Blessed Mother, to lead a good Catholic life and thereby receive the fulfillment of Our Lady's promise of the Brown Scapular.

Prayer for the Canonisation of Pope John Paul II

LET US PRAY: O Blessed Trinity, we thank You for having gifted the Church with Pope John Paul II and for allowing the tenderness of Your Fatherly care, the glory of the Cross of Christ, and the splendour of the Holy Spirit, to shine through him. Trusting fully in Your infinite mercy and in the maternal intercession of Mary, he has given us a living image of Jesus the Good Shepherd, and has shown us that holiness is the necessary measure of ordinary Christian life and is the way of achieving eternal communion with You. Grant us, by his intercession, and according to Your Will, the graces we implore, hoping that he will soon be numbered among Your saints. Amen.
