O Holy Spirit, Spirit of wisdom and divine love, impart Your knowledge, understanding, and counsel to youth - that they may know the vocation wherein they can best serve God. Give them courage and strength to follow God's holy will. Guide their uncertain steps, strengthen their resolutions, shield their chastity, fashion their minds, conquer their hearts, and lead them to the vineyards where they will labor in God's holy service.
Clergy and Religious of the Vicariate Apostolic of Kuwait
"Thou art a priest for ever, after the order of Melchiz'edek." -- Hebrews 5:6
"... Let us consider our call, brethren" (cf. 1 Cor 1:26). The priesthood is a call, a particular vocation: "one does not take this honour upon himself, but he is called by God" (Heb 5:4). The Letter to the Hebrews harks back to the priesthood of the Old Testament in order to lead us to an understanding of the mystery of Christ the Priest: "Christ did not exalt himself to be made a high priest, but was appointed by him who said to him: ... You are a priest for ever, after the order of Melchizedek' (5:5-6)."
-- Pope John Paul II's Letter to Priests for Holy Thursday 1996
Vicar Apostolic of Kuwait
HIS LORDSHIP BISHOP CAMILLO BALLIN, MCCI
H.L. Bishop Camillo Ballin, MCCI, is the 4th Vicar Apostolic of Kuwait. He was consecrated Bishop and installed as Vicar Apostolic on September 2, 2005, at the Holy Family Cathedral, Kuwait City. Bishop Camillo belongs to the Copngregation of the Comboni Missionaries of the Heart of Jesus. The Comboni Missionaries seek to follow in the footsteps of their founder, St. Daniel Comboni, by ministering to the world’s “poorest and most abandoned people.” They do this by proclaiming the Gospel with all of its values, by themselves working and empowering others to work for justice and love of all mankind and by working with local churches in making known the universal mission of Christ.
The Discalced Carmelite Order is a Religious Order founded by St. Teresa of Avila. Her great work of reform began with herself. She made a vow always to follow the most perfect course, and resolved to keep the rule as perfectly as she could. A group of nuns assembled in her cell one September evening in 1560, taking their inspiration from the primitive tradition of Carmel and the discalced reform of St. Peter of Alcantara, proposed the foundation of a monastery of an eremitical type. On August 24 1562, the new monastery dedicated to St. Joseph was founded. Then in Duruelo, with St. John of the Cross and Anthony of Jesus, she founded the first convent of Discalced Brethren in November 1568.
The ministry of a Diocesan (from Greek “to keep house”) Priest is one of being available and involved in the Parish, thus helping the local Bishop. Diocesan priests do not make vows like the Religious. Upon ordination, they promise obedience to their bishop, and celibacy for the sake of the kingdom of God.
The Salesians of Don Bosco, are an international organization of men dedicated full time to the service of young people, especially those who are poorer and disadvantaged. Founded by St. John Bosco, an Italian saint-educator of the nineteenth century, they are found in 128 different nations. ‘Youth Resource Development’ through education and evangelization is the main focus of their concern.
The ministry of the deacon is typically described as a three-fold ministry: a servant of Charity, the Word and the Altar. From the foundation of the order of deacon, those ordained to this order had the special role of caring for the poor and outcast and reminding the members of the Church to do the same. To the deacon is also entrusted the proclamation of the Gospel. Finally, he receives the gifts of the assembly, prepares the altar, assists the presider, gives directions to the assembly, administers communion, clears the table and finally dismisses the assembly.
The Apostolic Carmel Congregation was founded by Mother Veronica at Bayonne in 1868, and established at Mangalore, India, in 1870, by Bishop Marie Ephrem OCD. Rooted in the contemplative spirit of Carmel, and nourished by its life of prayer and missionary zeal, the Apostolic Carmel expresses the vitality of the Church through its fruitfulness in the active apostolate of education and other works of mercy.
The Rosary Congregation was established in Jerusalem in the year 1880 by Mother Marie Alphonsine from Jerusalem and Fr. Yousef Tannous from Nazareth, Chancellor of the Latin Patriarchate, assisted by the then Patriarch Vincent Bracco. The objectives of the Congregation are to serve the public through the establishment and development of schools, cultural and non-formal learning centers and hospitals.
PRAYER FOR PRIESTS
O Lord, may You find shelter and rest gently within the heart of Your priest...
Make him, O Lord, a priest according to Your heart: meek, humble, zealous,
so that all he does will be for Your honor and glory.
Mold him into a man of prayer and labor, insensible to earthly things,
and sensible only to Your love and to the graces of the Holy Ghost. Amen.
PRAYER FOR VOCATIONS
O God, You sent Your Son, Jesus, to bring eternal life to those who believe.
I join Him in praying for laborers for Your harvest.
May Your Holy Spirit inspire men and women to continue His mission through
Your priesthood, diaconate, religious life and lay ministry.
May this same Spirit make known Your will for my life. Amen.
