Prayer for Vocations

O Holy Spirit, Spirit of wisdom and divine love, impart Your knowledge, understanding, and counsel to youth - that they may know the vocation wherein they can best serve God. Give them courage and strength to follow God's holy will. Guide their uncertain steps, strengthen their resolutions, shield their chastity, fashion their minds, conquer their hearts, and lead them to the vineyards where they will labor in God's holy service.

Amen.

First Holy Communion

Holy Eucharist The Holy Eucharist is "the source and summit of the Christian life." The Eucharist is the heart and the summit of the Church's life, for in it Christ associates his Church and all her members with his sacrifice of praise and thanksgiving offered once for all on the cross to his Father; by this sacrifice he pours out the graces of salvation on his Body which is the Church.

Jesus said: "I am the living bread that came down from heaven; if any one eats of this bread, he will live for ever; . . . he who eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life and . . . abides in me, and I in him" (Jn 6:51, 54, 56).

REQUIREMENTS FOR THE RECEPTION OF FIRST HOLY COMMUNION

The belief that the Eucharist is truly the Body and Blood of Jesus and a desire to receive the Sacrament are essential to the reception of First Communion. Determining readiness is left to the discretion of the parents. The Clergy assisted by the Catechist or Sunday School Teachers will assist the parents so that an informed decision can be made. It is no longer presumed that just because a child is eight years of age he / she is ready to receive First Communion.

  • First Holy Communion Children must have completed 8 years of age.

  • Children must have completed at least 2 years of religious education (current year may be counted).

  • A copy of your child's Baptism Certificate is required.

  • Faithful and consistent participation in Parish Catechism Classes conducted in the Vicariate. i.e. Kuwait City, Salmiya or Ahmadi is a must. If the child is visiting Kuwait, then a certificate of participation in Catechism Classes from his / her parish is mandatory for him/her to receive the Sacrament of Communion in Kuwait.

  • The Catechism Class Schedules for the Holy Family Cathedral Parish, Our Lady of Arabia Parish and St. Thérèse Parish are available on the Parish Schedules Page.

  • Prior to the ceremony, parents will be required to attend a meeting. This meeting will provide instruction on how parents can prepare their children for the sacrament of Reconciliation and the sacrament of the Eucharist.
