3 NOV 2009: EUCHARISTIC CELEBRATION AT ST. THERESE CHURCH, SALMIYA Golden Jubilee Celebration at Salmiya Parish
Hearty congratulations and prayerful good wishes to the Salmiya Parish and its benefactors on achieving yet another milestone in their historical timeline.
It was on the 3rd of November, 1959, that the first weekly Holy Mass was celebrated in Salmiya by Monsignor Teofano Ubaldo Stella at the suggestion of Mr. Archie Menezes (retired, currently residing in Goa). The number of faithful at that time was around 40. Thereafter, till premises could be secured for a chapel, the faithful regularly congregated for Mass at Archie and Lida Menezes' residence in Salmiya.
From the humble beginnings of celebrating Mass in a family residence - to temporary facilities for a chapel - now, fifty years later, the Salmiya Catholic community is a formally erected parish that worships in a church dedicated to St. Thérèse and has grown to a strength of more than a thousand families from Salmiya and the neighbouring areas.
On 3rd November 2009, the Parish is commemorating that eventful moment: the first Mass in Salmiya and the birth of a praying community that would eventually become an ever-growing vibrant congregation of Catholics - a parish community!
To celebrate the occasion, the Masses (in English) on the Golden Jubilee day will be as follows: 6:15 A.M., 6:00 P.M. (Festive Concelebrated Mass presided by His Lordship Bishop Camillo Ballin, mccj) and an additional Mass at 7:45 P.M. All are cordially invited. Your presence and prayers are greatly appreciated.
On 6th November 2009, there will be a Cultural Concert at the IEAS at 7:30 P.M. Those who would like to attend may collect gate passes from the parish Resource Center.
The Conference is organized by the Catholic Church in the Gulf Region under the patronage of Bishop Paul Hinder and Bishop Camillo Ballin. The Purpose of the Conference is TO DEEPEN ONE'S FAITH AND HELP OTHERS TO DO THE SAME. The expected participants are the Youth of age up to 35 who are involved in various organizations of both the Vicariates of Kuwait and Arabia.
For registration please contact JESUS YOUTH members or the Parish office before October 31st. For more details, please see the parish notice board.
Commemoration of the Holy Souls during the month of November Prayer of St. Gertrude the Great for Holy Souls
Our Lord promised that every time this prayer was prayed, a thousand souls would be released from Purgatory.
Eternal Father, I offer Thee the most precious blood of Thy Divine Son, Jesus, in union with the Masses said throughout the world today; for all the Holy Souls in Purgatory, for sinners everywhere, for sinners in the Universal Church, those in my own home and within my family. Amen.
10th OCT 2009 : FEAST OF SAINT DANIEL COMBONI Saint Daniel Comboni Mission in Kuwait St. Daniel Comboni, Pray for Us!
On 24th September 2008, the great Missionary Saint: Saint Daniel Comboni was proclaimed the patron of our mission centre in Abbassiya. Since then, three of our priests took residence in that area to serve the needs of the large number of Catholic faithful living there.
His Lordship Bishop Camillo Ballin, MCCJ, Vicar Apostolic of Kuwait, says, "I chose St. Daniel Comboni as patron of this mission because we want him to intercede on our behalf, for a church in Abbassiya. Such a project might seem, humanly speaking, impossible. But, we do know, from past experience, the power of prayer! In the Ahmadi church, when we were in need of rooms for catechism, prayers were raised regularly in that parish and in spite of many difficulties, our hopes and dreams were finally realised. In Abbassiya, we need to build a church and we need suitable land for it! We must have the faith to believe that Saint Daniel Comboni is able to intercede and obtain this miracle for us.
A special Novena to Saint Daniel Comboni has been prepared for this particular intercession. Beginning from Thursday, 15th October 2009, this Novena will be recited in all our parish churches on Thursdays, at Mass, immediately following the “Prayer after Communion” and before the final blessing. I, also, encourage you and your families to pray this Novena regularly, privately, at home. Let Saint Daniel Comboni strongly present our cry to God: We want land and a church in Abbassiya!"
Printed Novena cards will be distributed in all the parishes. Please collect your personal copy.
On Saturday, 10th October 2009, the feast Mass of Saint Daniel Comboni will be celebrated in St. Thérèse Church, Salmiya, at 6:30 PM. St. Daniel Comboni founded the Congregation of the Missionaries of the Sacred Heart, to which our Bishop Camillo belongs.
2nd SEPT 2009 : RELEASE OF BISHOP CAMILLO'S PASTORAL LETTER We Cannot Live Without The Eucharist: Pastoral Letter of H.L. Bishop Camillo Ballin, MCCJ
H.L. Bishop Camillo's Pastoral Letter, "We Cannot Live Without the Eucharist!" comes to us on the 4th anniversary of his Episcopal Ordination. It is a cont- inuation of his previous two pastoral letters (released in 2007 and 2008).
In this letter, the Bishop invites the faithful to contemplate and comprehend in a deeper way what the Eucharist is! The title of the pastoral letter which is a profession of the testimony of the martyrs: We cannot live without the Eucharist! is a call to re-discover the beauty and the amazement of the Eucharist.
The main section of the pastoral letter is written in the form of questions and answers, compiled from the numerous questions that the Bishop has received from the faithful and from the Compendium of the Catechism of the Catholic Church.
5th September 2009 Notification from the Bishop's Office to the Faithful of Kuwait
2nd Unity Congress - 9th to 12th November 2009
"Let us celebrate Him!"
Dear Brothers and Sisters,
Peace be with you all. I thank God Who gives us the grace to celebrate the "Unity Congress" for the second time. It is a gift from God to be together for some days, as Jesus said: "For where two or three meet in my name, I am there among them" (Cf. Mt.18:20).
Last year, we had a very good experience with our 1st Unity Congress. We looked at each other knowing that we are different and we felt the necessity to be one, especially in this area of the world. We saw that division is our weakness, unity is our strength. Our motto was: "That they may be one as we are one" (Jn 17:22).
This year, we shall go to the roots of our unity: Liturgy! We are all members of the Catholic Church because God called us to enter into this family, His family that is built on the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ and based on the Apostles and their successors. As God's family we celebrate together, the mercy of God, Who sent His only Son to give us a life without end, eternal life. That's why the motto of this year is: "Let us celebrate Him!" We form one family, we want to be one in celebrating Him, our Father, through His beloved Son Jesus Christ in unity with their love, the Holy Spirit.
But, at the same time, we know that we are different. You have seen Masses celebrated in very different ways. We have many Rites in the Catholic Church and our churches in Kuwait. How to be and remain ONE in this diversity? This is the theme of the "Unity Congress" this year: to celebrate Him in unity in spite of our diversity.
I invite you to come and participate in the Unity Congress which will be celebrated from 9th to 12th November, daily from 6:00 to 9:00 pm.
May I ask you, also, to accompany our Church with your prayers. At the end of every Mass, a special prayer will be said all together for the success of the Unity Congress, as we did last year. From the date of the announcement of our Unity Congress until November 12th, the prayer to St. John Mary Vianney will be temporarily suspended.
Thanks, my dear brothers and sisters, for your fidelity to the Catholic Church, our mother, and to your priests and Bishop.
May God increase your love for Him and for all and bless you abundantly.
Bishop Camillo Ballin, mccj Vicar Apostolic of Kuwait
19 JUNE 2009 - 19 JUNE 2010 : YEAR OF THE PRIEST "Year of the Priest is a great opportunity for conversion," says Pope Benedict XVI, "May Christ be made ever more manifest in each one of us!"
Pope Benedict XVI has declared a "Year of the Priest" which will open with a vespers service at the Vatican on June 19 - the feast of the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the day for the sanctification of priests. He will close the celebrations during a World Meeting of Priests in St. Peter's Square on June 19, 2010. This year also marks the 150th anniversary of the death of the 19th-century saint - John Vianney, who represents a "true example of a priest at the service of the flock of Christ," the pope said. St. John Marie Vianney is widely known to Catholics as the Cure (parish priest) of Ars who won over the hearts of his villagers in France by visiting with them, teaching them about God and reconciling people to the Lord in the confessional. During this jubilee year, the pope will proclaim him to be patron saint of all the world's priests. At present, he is considered the patron saint of parish priests.
To Thee, O Jesus! I consecrate my heart; do Thou secure it within Thine.
In Thy Heart I wish to take up my abode, and through the love of Thy Heart I wish to love. May I live in Thy Heart, unknown to the world, and known only to Thee. In Thy Heart, I shall find that consuming love, with which mine should be all on fire; in it I hope to find strength, light, and true consolation. If I am fainting, it will give me courage; if I am sad, it will give me joy; if I am disquieted and troubled, it will give me confidence.
O Heart of Jesus! may my heart be an altar ever burning with the fire of Thy love; may my tongue be employed in making known Thy goodness; may my eyes be unceasingly fixed upon Thy wound; may my mind constantly meditate on Thy adorable perfections; may my memory for ever preserve the recollection of Thy mercies; may my whole being, O Jesus! express my love for Thy Sacred Heart; and may my heart be ever ready to make any sacrifice for Thee.
O Heart of Mary! next to the Heart of Jesus, the most amiable, compassionate, and merciful of all hearts, present this my consecration, my love, and my resolutions to the Heart of Thy Son. Through Thee He will be moved to compassion for our miseries, and will deliver us from them; and thus, O Mother of Jesus! after being our protectress upon earth, Thou will be our Queen for ever in heaven. Amen.
PRAYER FOR PRIESTS
O Lord, may You find shelter and rest gently within the heart of Your priest...
Make him, O Lord, a priest according to Your heart: meek, humble, zealous, so that all he does will be for Your honor and glory.
Mold him into a man of prayer and labor, insensible to earthly things, and sensible only to Your love and to the graces of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
PRAYER FOR VOCATIONS
O God, You sent Your Son, Jesus, to bring eternal life to those who believe. I join Him in praying for laborers for Your harvest.
May Your Holy Spirit inspire men and women to continue His mission through Your priesthood, diaconate, religious life and lay ministry.
May this same Spirit make known Your Will for my life. Amen.

2 SEPT 2008 : RELEASE OF BISHOP CAMILLO'S PASTORAL LETTER One Body in Christ: 2nd Pastoral Letter of His Lordship Bishop Camillo Ballin, MCCJ
H.L. Bishop Camillo's Second Pastoral Letter which was released on the third anniversary of his Episcopal Ordination is based on the Parts of the Holy Mass with a more detailed explanation of the Liturgy of the Eucharist. The title of the Letter has been taken from 1 Cor 10:17. St. Paul says: "And as there is one loaf, so we, although there are many of us, are one single body, for we all share in the one loaf."
In the introduction, reference to the Passover is used to illumine the meaning of Christ’s redeeming sacrifice. Jesus, an observant Jew, died at Passover. His Last Supper — where he gave us the Eucharist as a way to remember and receive him — was a Passover meal (Luke 22:7-38). A Christian Passover highlights the fact that Jesus’ death and resurrection is a new exodus. What does that mean for us? How can we live out this reality more fully? ...
The Letter concludes with notes and indications on how to use the letter.

21st SEPT 2007 : RELEASE OF BISHOP CAMILLO'S PASTORAL LETTER Eucharistic Amazement: Pastoral Letter of His Lordship Bishop Camillo Ballin, MCCJ
H.L. Bishop Camillo's Pastoral Letter of this year is on the Eucharist. The title of the Letter has been taken from the Papal Encyclical Ecclesia de Eucharistia, in which thrice Pope John Paul II described the Eucharist as "amazement".
The First Part of the Pastoral Letter explains in as simple terms as possible: the Biblical Roots of the Eucharistic Celebration, The Eucharist as a Sacrament of Unity, The Altar as Symbol of Christ and Music in the Liturgy. The Second Part of the Pastoral Letter closely examines the Liturgy of the Word. Each section of the Letter concludes with thought-provoking questions for a deeper understanding. Pastoral Letter: EUCHARISTIC AMAZEMENT ASK THE BISHOP: Send your questions / comments to H.L. Bishop Camillo.

B E A T I F I C A T I O N & C A N O N I S A T I O N C A U S E :
LET US PRAY: O Blessed Trinity, we thank You for having gifted the Church with Pope John Paul II and for allowing the tenderness of Your Fatherly care, the glory of the Cross of Christ, and the splendour of the Holy Spirit, to shine through him. Trusting fully in Your infinite mercy and in the maternal intercession of Mary, he has given us a living image of Jesus the Good Shepherd, and has shown us that holiness is the necessary measure of ordinary Christian life and is the way of achieving eternal communion with You. Grant us, by his intercession, and according to Your Will, the graces we implore, hoping that he will soon be numbered among Your saints. Amen.
November is dedicated to:
1. The Memory of All Saints.
The November (1st) feast of All Saints was insti- tuted to honour all the Saints, known and unknown. It has a vigil and octave. The feast of All Saints should inspire us with tremendous hope. All lived on earth lives like our own. They were baptized, marked with the sign of faith, they were faithful to Christ's teaching and they have gone before us to the heavenly home. The Church has now placed them before us as our true models and intercessors. The Gospel of the Beatitudes teaches us how we, too, can attain a similar state of perfection ...
2. The Holy Souls in Purgatory.
"It is a holy and wholesome thought to pray for the dead, that they may be loosed from sins." (2 Mac 12:46) Purgatory is a state of temporary punishment after death for some sins. During the month of Novemebr (especially), the Church exhorts the faithful to join her in prayer with the Saints in heaven and supply what is wanting to the souls in purgatory (to reach Heaven) by means of the Mass, indulgences, alms and sacrifices ...
