Prayer for Vocations

O Holy Spirit, Spirit of wisdom and divine love, impart Your knowledge, understanding, and counsel to youth - that they may know the vocation wherein they can best serve God. Give them courage and strength to follow God's holy will. Guide their uncertain steps, strengthen their resolutions, shield their chastity, fashion their minds, conquer their hearts, and lead them to the vineyards where they will labor in God's holy service.

Amen.

JESUS CHRIST, SON OF GOD: OUR REDEEMER

The person of Jesus Christ is the Second Person of the Most Holy Trinity, the Son or the Word of the Father, Who "was incarnate by the Holy Ghost of the Virgin Mary and was made man." These mysteries, though foretold in the Old Testament, were fully revealed in the New, and clearly developed in Christian Tradition and theology.

Jesus is the central figure of Christianity, in which context he is known as Jesus Christ, where Christ is a Greek title meaning "Anointed", corresponding to the Hebrew term "Messiah".

The main sources of information regarding Jesus' life and teachings are the four canonical Gospels of the New Testament.

SON OF GOD BRINGS FULLNESS OF SALVATION

JESUS offers us a salvation which, though primarily is a liberation from sin, also involves the totality of our being with its deepest needs and aspirations. Christ frees us from this burden and opens the way to the complete fulfilment of our destiny.

HOW comforting to think that Jesus does not limit himself to freeing the heart from the prison of selfishness and sin, but starting from the heart, the salvation brought by Jesus is extended to the various areas of human life: spiritual and physical, personal and social. In His public life, He heals the sick, frees people from demons and alleviates every kind of suffering, thereby showing a sign of God's kingdom. He tells the disciples to do the same when they preach the Gospel (cf. Mt 10:8; Lk 9:2; 10:9) ...

SO rich and deep is the salvation brought by Christ ... He came to save not only every person, but the whole person!

JESUS ALSO REVEALS THAT HE:

.. is The Savior of the World
"For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son,
that whoever believes in Him should not perish
but have eternal life." --JOHN 3:16

.. is The Messiah
The woman said to Him, "I know that Messiah is coming" (who
is called Christ). "When He comes, He will show us all things."
Jesus said to her, "I who speak to you am He." --JOHN 4:25-26

.. is Teacher And Lord
"You call me Teacher and Lord; and you are right, for so I am."
-- JOHN 13:13

.. is Perfectly Revealed God
"If you had known Me, you would have known My Father also; henceforth
you know him and have seen him." --JOHN 14:7

.. is The Universal King
Pilate said to Him, "So you are a king?" Jesus answered, "You say
that I am a king. For this I was born, and for this I have come
into the world, to bear witness to the truth. Everyone who is
of the truth hears my voice." --JOHN 18:37

.. has All Authority
When Jesus had spoken these words, lifted up his eyes to heaven,
and said: "Father, the hour has come; glorify thy Son, that the Son
may glorify thee, since thou hast given him power over all flesh,
to give eternal life to all whom thou hast given him. --JOHN 17:1-2

.. is Judge over All
He who rejects me and does not receive my sayings has a judge; the word
that I have spoken will be his judge on the last day. --JOHN 12:48

THE HOLY NAME AND DIVINE INFANCY OF JESUS

The Most Holy Name of Jesus should be on our lips throughout our life and especially at the moment of death. By lovingly repeating His Holy Name with adoring love and putting it at the centre of our prayer, we will make St. Paul's instruction our very own: "and at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth" (Phil 2,10)

HOW SWEET THE NAME OF JESUS SOUNDS

How sweet the name of Jesus sounds
In a believer's ear!
It soothes his sorrows, heals his wounds,
And drives away his fear.

It makes the wounded spirit whole,
And calms the troubled breast;
'Tis manna to the hungry soul,
And to the weary, rest.
IHS - The first three letters from the Greek Name of JESus
Dear Name! The Rock on which I build,
My Shield and Hiding Place,
My never failing Treasury filled
With boundless stores of grace;

Jesus, my Shepherd, Brother, Friend,
My Prophet, Priest, and King,
My Lord, my Life, my End,
Accept the praise I bring.
Weak is the effort of my heart,
And cold my warmest thought;
But when I see Thee as Thou art,
I'll praise Thee as I ought.

Till then I would Thy love proclaim
With every fleeting breath;
And may the music of Thy Name
Refresh my soul in death.
