The Filipino community erected a massive Christmas tree in the Cathedral
compound along with a crib.

A recollection was held at the Holy Family Cathedral ground floor hall
on Saturday, 6 December 1999 from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm. Rev. Fr. Domnic
Santamaria celebrated the Holy Eucharist while the Filipino choir assisted.
The Holy Eucharist was exposed.
Rev. Fr. Rutillo Mallillin spoke at length on the awareness of the
GREAT JUBILEE YEAR. After a short break the God’s Love Community,
Salmiya conducted the praise & worship assisted by their choir.
"True Conversion and Reconciliation" was the second talk of the
day by Rev. Fr. Rutillo. "inner healing and benediction" was conducted
by Rev. Fr. John Chrysostom and assisted by the choir of
St. Mary’s prayer group.
Great Jubilee posters were present everywhere, while other spiritual
literature was displayed for the benefit of those attending.

The year long Jubilee celebrations were officially started on
24 December 1999, Christmas day and will come to a close on 6 January 2001,
Feast of the Epiphany.

A variety of programmes like Praise & Worship, skits, a radio show,
Bible Quiz, a dance and video shows were held at the Holy Redeemer
Chapel, Salmiya from 26/12/1999 to 30/12/1999. A large congregation
attended the programmes from 6:00 pm - 9:00 pm. daily.

JANUARY 2000

01/01/2000
|
The worldwide celebration of the birthday of Jesus, starting in New
Zealand and culminating in Hawaii, was celebrated in Kuwait on
1 January 2000. Nearly 400 catechism children, waving the Jubilee 2000
flags and accompanied by the catechists from Salmiya and Kuwait City went
on a pilgrimage to the Church of Our Lady of Arabia, Ahmadi, and thereby
gained indulgences. The Carmel sisters and the parishioners
joined in the celebrations.
The children sang "Happy Birthday Jesus" while Rev. Fr. John Chrysostom
cut the huge cake decorated with the Jubilee logo. It was indeed a
befitting start to the Jubilee 2000 celebrations in Kuwait.
Bro. Rudolf Fernandes thanked His Lordship Francis Micallef, the Bishop in Kuwait
for his encouragement and blessings, Fr. John Chrysostom for hosting
the meet, the Carmel sisters, cathechists, parishioners and the youth.

Another recollection was held during the Eid holiday at the
Holy Family Cathedral ground floor hall on 8 January 2000 from 9:00 am - 1:00 pm.
His Lordship Francis Micallef celebrated the Holy Eucharist and delivered the homily.
Rev. Fr. John Chrysostom exposed the Blessed Sacrament.
The chairman - Bro. Allwyn D’Silva and the deputy chairman - Bro. Christopher Cabral
of the Kuwait National Service Team together led the congregation in
praise & worship assisted by God’s Love Community choir.
Rev. Fr. Rutillo delivered the main talk of the day.
St. Mary’s prayer group assisted Rev. Fr. John Chrysostom during the
healing service followed by benediction.

The Great Jubilee 2000 fete was held at the Holy Redeemer Chapel, Salmiya
on 14 January 2000 from 9:00 am - 3.30 pm. It was well attended by the
parishioners and clergy, prominent being His Lordship Francis Micallef,
Rev. Fr. Rutillo, Rev. Fr. Daniel, Rev. Fr. Gabriel and the Carmel sisters.
The proceeds of the fete were handed over by Rev. Fr. Gabriel Dias,
Parish Priest of the Holy Redeemer Chapel, Salmiya in the presence of
the parish council, to the Jubilee committee co-ordinator Bro. Rudolf Fernandes.

FEBRUARY 2000

The Bible was enthroned at the Holy Redeemer Chapel, Salmiya on
Friday 11/02/2000 before the weekly service followed by a discourse
by Rev. Fr. Gabriel Dias. He continued the discourse daily from
8:00 pm - 9:00 pm Saturday through Tuesday.
Nearly forty parishioners participated.

The first Jubilee 2000 musical concert was held at the Holy
Family Cathedral hall on 19/02/2000. Predominately Polish,
the group played mainly classical music and entertained the large crowd.

26/02/2000
|
A Christeen Retreat was held on 26/02/2000 from 9am to 3pm at our
Lady of Arabia Church, Ahmadi under the auspicies of the
Jubilee 2000 celebrations. A large number of nearly 200
children from Kuwait City, Salmiya and Ahmadi parishes attended this retreat.
Rev. Fr. John Chrysostom welcomed the youthful gathering.
A very spiritful praise & worship was led by Bro. Sebastian
of St. Mary’s Prayer Group assisted by their choir. Speakers
of the day included Bro. Christopher Cabral, Bro. Vincent and
Bro. Aji Peter. The children of Kuwait City presented inspirational
songs while God’s Love Community, Salmiya conducted a Bible Quiz
which was enjoyed by all.
St. Mary’s Prayer Group counseled the teenagers, while Fr. John Chrysostom
heard confessions, led the inner healing service and celebrated
the Holy Eucharist. Bro. Allwyn D’Silva, the chairman of the
Kuwait National Service Team proposed a vote of thanks.

MARCH 2000

The second Jubilee musical concert was held at the Holy Family Cathedral
after the 6:00 pm service and on the next day at 7:30 pm in the
ground floor hall by the visiting ‘Celebrant Singers’.

A penetential service was held before the night vigil on Thursday
from 9 pm to 10 pm. While the service was being conducted four
priests heard confessions.

18/03/2000
|
Another recollection was held at the Holy Family Cathedral ground
floor hall from 9 am to 1 pm. The deliberations for the day started
with the Holy Mass celebrated by HE Rev. Mgr. Giuseppe De Andrea,
The Filipino choir sang during the mass.
The God’s Love Community - Salmiya led the Praise and Worship
assisted by their choir.
During the recess period the congregation attending the
recollection kept themselves busy going through the Jubilee
2000 message posters on display.
Rev. Fr. Rutillo Mallillin preached on the theme of the day ‘Jubilee 2000 message’.
Later Rev. Fr. John Chrysostom exposed the Blessed Sacrament and conducted the
inner healing service assisted by the St. Mary’s Prayer Group Choir.
The curtain came down on the proceedings of the day after Benediction and Blessing.

A three day retreat at the Holy Family Cathedral attended by a very
large congregation, was preached by Bishop Theodoro Bacani, a visiting
bishop from the Phillipines. He placed special emphasis on the
gaining of indulgences.

APRIL 2000

The Filipino Catholic Community Council (FCCC), in association
with the Jubilee committee, presented a Jubilee lenten presentation
‘Celebration of the Sorrowful Mysteries’ from 7:30 pm onwards in the
ground floor parish hall of the Holy Family Cathedral - Kuwait City.
Faithful of all communities witnessed a tableau in five acts depicting
the suffering and death of Jesus Christ.
The programme, in three parts, started around 7:30 pm. Part One was
the opening song sung by the PPFI followed by the opening prayer by
Bro. Rudolf Fernandes. The occasion was solemn with the worship
songs by the PPFI choir. Part Two was the play depicting the ‘Agony in the Garden’,
‘The Scourging at the Pillar’, The Crowning with Thorns’,
‘The Carrying of the Cross’ and the ‘Crucifixion and Death’ or the
five Sorrowful Mysteries of the Holy Rosary.
The play featured an all Filipino cast directed by Sis. Letty Romeo,
who also wrote the script. Bro. Rollie Gutierrez and Bro. Roland Balingit
was the narrator and voice over respectively with Sis. Minda Fabro
animating the proceedings. Bro. Allwyn Diaz did the reflections.
Bro. Danny Deladia, Bro. Caesar Cabalatingan and Bro. Nards Agustin
were in charge of props and costumes.
Bishop Francis Micallef and Fr. Rutillo Mallillin, in their message
during the last part of the programme, reiterated and stressed the
need for repentance and renewal.

The Filipino community celebrated the feast of the Finding of the Holy Cross
in a very traditional manner.

JUNE 2000

A vigorous collection was made towards the welfare and repatriation of maids
housed at the safe centers of the Embassies of Sri Lanka, Philippines and India.
This was in line with the exhortation of the Holy Father in ‘Tertio Millennio’ of
setting the captives free. The Jubilee Committee
has whole-heartedly thanked the congregation for their
generous contribution. May God bless you all.

A Pentecost Recollection was held at the Holy Family Cathedral ground floor
hall from 9 am to 1 pm. Rev. Fr. Daniel Maliakkal OCD celebrated the Holy Eucharist.
Christ the King Charismatic Group Choir sang for the mass.
The Praise and Worship was led by Sister Minda Fabro and assisted by the Filipino Choir.
Rev. Fr. Rutillo Mallillin spoke to those present on the Pentecost.

The Jubilee 2000 quiz to be conducted by God’s Love Community - Salmiya on the books
of Genesis and Mathew had to be postponed because of the suspension of services
at the Holy Redeemer Chapel. Rev. Fr. Gabriel Dias had already delivered
a series of talks on the book of Genesis.

The scriptural parable, ‘The Prodigal Son’, staged on Friday, 24th November 2000,
at the Holy Family Cathedral, Kuwait, left an indelible impression on the
hearts and minds of the audience. As part of the Jubilee celebration, His Lordship,
Francis Micallef, hosted this event with a thematic significance of the Heavenly
