Monsignor Thomas Habib was born on 6 July 1963 in Cairo, Egypt.
He completed his studies in his homeland with a bachelor's degree in Law in the year 1985, after which he practised Law.
Two years later, he felt a strong calling to serve God and His people in the priesthood. From 1987 to 1989, he studied at the seminary of St. Leo the Great in Cairo. He was ordained a priest on 23 March 1994 in Cairo.
From 1990 to 1993, he perfected his theological studies at the Pontifical Urbanian University in Rome. In 1998 obtained a degree in Canon law from the Pontifical Oriental Institute in Rome.
While pursuing his theological studies in Rome, Mons. Habib served as Chaplain to the Egyptian Catholic community in the city.
In the year 1996, Mons. Habib joined the Pontifical Ecclesiastical Academy to prepare for the Diplomatic Services of the Holy See. In 1998, upon graduation, he was posted to the following places:-
- The Apostolic Nunciature in the Honduras, Central America, as Chargé d'Affaires from 1998 to 2000.
- The Apostolic Nunciature in Rwanda, Africa, as Second Secretary from 2000 to 2001.
- The Apostolic Nunciature in Kuwait as First Secretary. He assumed his duties in Kuwait on 2 August 2001.
Mons. Habib has the distinction of being the first Egyptian member of the Vatican Diplomatic Corps. He speaks Arabic, Italian, French, Spanish and English.
In December 2003, Mons. Habib left Kuwait for Iran to commence a new diplomatic appointment.
