"LET US ARISE AND GO TO GOD'S HOUSE"
--- The Newly Renovated and Extended Chapel ---
Following the closure of the chapel premises for almost six months for renovation and extension, the "new" extended chapel with annexe was inaugurated and blessed by H.L. Bishop Francis Micallef on Friday, 8th June, 2001. Among those present at the ceremony, were Vatican Chargé D'Affaires - Monsignor Giuseppe De Andrea, the clergy and members of the Catholic community in Kuwait.

The remodeling of the existing structure is the culmination of more than twelve months of planning and anticipation, although actual construction had been underway for less than three months.
Since its inception in 1974, the chapel has undergone its most major renovation. The outstanding features of the chapel are the remodeled and larger sanctuary and extended main body of the chapel, made possible through the demolition of the smaller rooms on the right side and redesign of the altar (moved a few feet back), after taking in the new space acquired from the tenants who vacated the premises. The arrangement of the pews ensures that the altar is visible from all the seats. White tiles grace the false ceiling, and the walls have been repainted. More ceiling lights and central air-conditioning add up to the new look.

The enclosed annexe
|
A tabernacle room for prayer along with a confessional has been set up in the annexe. Thanks to the multi-purpose rooms on the left side as well as in the annexe (also acquired from the tenants who vacated the premises) the weekly catechism classes for children are now conducted in one shift. The exterior of the chapel has also undergone a transformation. The walls are painted the local sand-color, and there is a newly tiled pavement surrounding the chapel.
It is the deep sense of community of the Salmiya parishioners which has brought a project of such a scale to full fruition. With deep gratitude to God and to all who assisted in the restoration, the community is once again able to worship in the chapel.
