What is the Role of Music Ministry?
The Parish choirs, cantors/song leaders and instrumental music enhance the worship at Our Lady of Lourdes. It is our goal to encourage full, conscious and active participation of the assembly through use of a combination of traditional hymnody, contemporary composition and other varieties of music. Participation has as its focus sung psalms, hymns and acclamations during Mass at at other liturgical services. We want music to become prayer to all those at the liturgies.
How Can I Become Involved?
There are five separate choirs at Our Lady of Lourdes. Each gives its own style of ministry to the prayer.
The largest and most active group is the parish choir which is comprised of voices from high school students to retirees. Click here for more information.
Our Children's Choir and Boy's Choir
sing approximately once a month at the 10:30 am Sunday
Our Resurrection Choir provides support to bereaved families at funerals and memorial Masses. Click here for more information.
The Handbell Choir contributes to the music of our parish by providing both embellishment to congregational participation and by presenting compositions written for handbells alone. Click here for more information.
Our Cantor group provides leadership at each weekend Mass, either as principal leader of sung worship or working in collaboration with the choirs.
Who takes care of all this?
The director of music, Kathryn Weider, who has served at the parish for thirty years in different capacities, manages the overall program including training, directing and scheduling the choirs, cantors and instrumentalists.
