The church is located at the junction of Cherry Hinton Road and Walpole Road. It is close to Cherry Hinton Hall, the location for the annual Cambridge Folk Festival, and is the nearest Catholic Church to the Festival site and camp grounds.
Origin
The Parish of St Philip Howard was set up in 1978, by splitting off from the parish of Our Lady and the English Martyrs.
The parish has been served by the following parish priests.
The present Church was built in 1979. In the original layout, the altar was set on the south wall (next to the Sacristy). The layout was changed to put the altar against the east wall in 1995. In 2000, the raised dais for the altar was provided with ramps, to facilitate access for a priest with impaired walking ability. In 2005, these ramps, together with the raised dais were removed completely, so that a wheelchair bound priest is able to move freely round the area for distribution of the Eucharist, and access to the lectern to read the Gospel.

The picture above the tabernacle was donated by those returning from the Youth Pilgrimage to Rome during the Jubilee year 2000.

The interior may be divided by folding screens so that the size may be tailored to the differing needs of weekday and Sunday Mass attendences. This also allows for social functions to be held in part of the centre. with the Sanctuary screened off from the main hall.
There is a small room which has glass partitioning between it and the main hall, which can be used by mothers with small children, so that any noise does not distract the rest of the congregation, and yet the mothers will be able to hear Mass.
Toilet facilities are also available for visitors to the centre. These include baby changing facilities, and are also available for the disabled.
Social Functions
For more information about the use of the Hall - rates, bookings, etc, email Richard Hunt
There are kitchen facilities for social occasions, with a serving hatch in the area furthest from the sanctuary.
The use of the partitions which cater for changing the effective size of the church between weekdays and Sundays/Holidays allows for the Hall to be used in different sizes for different functions. There is also a smaller room which may be used for smaller meetings.
