GENERAL NOTICES

THE MASS REGISTER   If you wish to have a Mass offered in the near future you can do so by completing one of the brown envelopes found in the Book Room just inside the door and putting it either in the offertory basket or through the letterbox at the Presbytery.
If you would like to have a Mass offered please remember there are only 52 Sundays in the year. Everyone seems to want a Sunday. Masses are offered each day in the parish. At the present moment we have very few Mass requests so if you would like a Mass offered in the next few weeks there should be no difficulty meeting your request.
When the repository is not open during the week there are MASS ENVELOPES for Mass offerings on the small table by the notice board in the porch. There are signed Mass cards available in the Sacristy.

CHURCH HOURS   The Church will be accessible by the code on the door each day from 08h00 unless there is a Mass at an earlier time and will close each evening at 19h30 unless other arrangements have been made by groups using the facilities. If you see the red ALARM ON sign, please do not attempt to access the building.

OUR CONDOLENCES   to Joan Nolan and Family on the death of her husband Jimmy who died last week. Jimmy's Requiem will be celebrated at Our Lady and The English Martyrs Church on Wednesday, 14th May at 11h00. Eternal rest grant unto him, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon him. May he rest in peace. Amen.

HOLY LAND PILGRIMAGE REUNION AND INFORMATION GATHERING   On SUNDAY, 15 JUNE from 16h00-18h00 we invite all those who have been a part of one of our pilgrimages to the Holy Land to come and share experiences as well as people who are interested in joining a future pilgrimage to the Holy Land.

Mission Outreach

HELPERS OF MOTHER TERESA   meet on the fourth Thursday of each month. For more information please phone Maureen Harper on the number in the printed Newsletter, or Email.

PALESTINIAN GOODS   Fairtrade Fortnight saw Zaytoun's Director from Palestine, Taysir Arabasi visiting the UK to highlight Zaytoun's role in making fair trade products from Palestine available in the UK. Key messages that audiences took away were that Palestinians want 'Trade not aid' and supporters in the UK learnt how they can empower Palestinians by giving them a market for their goods. Zaytoun are pleased to announce that we now offer a home delivery service for single case orders of Palestinian olive oil and dates. Please see the 'home delivery' link from our web site for more info.

For an order form please email Palestinian olives are available from the end of May The olives have been sourced through Canaan Fair Trade in Jenin and are organically grown. There will be two delicious types to try: Nabali green olives, pickled in the Palestinian tradition with olive oil, water and salt and 'Tree ripened' black olives which are smothered in olive oil and seasoned with sea salt. Prices and sizes: Nabali green olives, 250g jars, £17.40 per case 12 (£1.45/jar) Tree ripened black olives, 300g jars, £30 per case (£2.50/jar)

This May marks the 60th anniversary of the Palestinian 'Nakba' (catastrophe). In 1948 over 750,000 Palestinians were driven from their homes and their lands, in an act that the Palestinians call the nakba, when the State of Israel was created. For many Palestinians the nakba continues; through the theft of land for settlement expansion and the annexation wall, the blockade in Gaza which has brought a humanitarian disaster to the 1.5 million residents and the ongoing issue of right of return for the world's largest refugee population.

PASTORAL NOTICES

EASTER DUTIES   A reminder that the period to fulfill our Easter duties: the requirement that we make our confession and receive Holy Communion at least once a year and that during the Easter period, ends with the Solemnity of the Most Holy Trinity, which is next Sunday.

The Code of Canon Law
asserts, "After having attained the age of discretion, each of the faithful is bound by an obligation faithfully to confess serious sins at least once a year" (no. 989). However, the Code also asserts, "It is to be recommended to the Christian faithful that venial sins also be confessed" (no. 988.2). Cf. 1456-1458 in the Catechism of the Catholic Church.

MAKING GOOD USE OF THE SACRAMENT OF PENANCE

Prepare to encounter Jesus in this sacrament by making an honest and heartfelt examination of conscience.

Examination of Conscience

Recall your sins. Calmly and honestly ask yourself what you have done with full knowledge and full consent against God and the Church's commandments.
Acts of Contrition
O my God, I am heartily sorry for having offended Thee, and I detest all my sins, because I dread the loss of Heaven, and the pains of Hell; but most of all because I love Thee, my God, Who art all good and deserving of all my love. I firmly resolve, with the help of Thy grace, to confess my sins, to do penance, and to amend my life. Amen.

I am truly sorry for every sin, mortal and venial, for all the sins of my childhood up to the present hour. I know my sins have wounded your loving Heart, O my Saviour, let me be freed from the bonds of evil through the most bitter Passion of My Redeemer. Amen. O My Jesus, forget and forgive what I have been. Amen. Lord Jesus, have mercy on me a sinner and give me the grace to live for You alone. Amen.

Act of Consecration to the Sacred Heart

O Sacred Heart of Jesus, to Thee I consecrate and offer up my person and my life, my actions, trials, and sufferings, that my entire being may henceforth only be employed in loving, honouring and glorifying Thee. This is my irrevocable will, to belong entirely to Thee, and to do all for Thy love, renouncing with my whole heart all that can displease Thee.
I take Thee, O Sacred Heart, for the sole object of my love, the protection of my life, the pledge of my salvation, the remedy of my frailty and inconstancy, the reparation for all the defects of my life, and my secure refuge at the hour of my death. Be Thou, O Most Merciful Heart, my justification before God Thy Father, and screen me from His anger which I have so justly merited. I fear all from my own weakness and malice, but placing my entire confidence in Thee, O Heart of Love, I hope all from Thine infinite Goodness. Annihilate in me all that can displease or resist Thee. Imprint Thy pure love so deeply in my heart that I may never forget Thee or be separated from Thee.
I beseech Thee, through Thine infinite Goodness, grant that my name be engraved upon Thy Heart, for in this I place all my happiness and all my glory, to live and to die as one of Thy devoted servants.
Amen
