We will be moving toward a Parish-in-Council structure: one of the two suggestions made by the Bishop in his Five Year Plan. That means that twice yearly the whole parish will be assembled to discuss and agree plans for future ventures. The planning for these assemblies will be undertaken by a Steering Committee with a lay chairperson.
The Steering Committee should be composed of those who have agreed to be parish contacts as well as representatives from the established groups in the parish: Readers, Eucharistic Ministers, Catechists, Fabric and Finance Committee, Musicians, Youth Group, Altar Servers, Confirmation Group, Knights of St Columba, African Chaplaincy, Filippino Chaplaincy, Indian Chaplaincy, Marian Cenacle, Christian Life Programme and any future groups approved by the parish.
I am asking those who are in the following groups to nominate one of their members for the Steering Committee: Catechists, Fabric and Finance Committee, Youth Group, Altar Servers, Knights of St Columba, African Chaplaincy, Filippino Chaplaincy, Indian Chaplaincy, Marian Cenacle, Christian Life Programme. If the names can be given to Fr Eugène by the end of September we can begin to build a structure.
The remaining groups will need to meet in the near future to elect representatives: Readers, Eucharistic Ministers and Musicians. Please keep your eyes on the newsletter for details of meetings for these groups.
PARISH MISSION We thank God for this opportunity of collaborative ministry presaged by the Cambridge Conversation which took place four years ago.
It will present many challenges to us to become truly effective agents of God's loving presence in our parish community. Importantly, we need to keep our minds and hearts fixed on the fact that we belong to the larger Diocesan family.
