RELIGIOUS ED NEWS
REL ED’S LAST CLASS is May 4. Remember, our faith formation is an ongoing journey and shouldn’t stop when classes break. There are many good resources in our library and websites that can fill the gap.
VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL is scheduled for August 10 to 14. Anyone interested in helping please email (lorraine168@verizon.net) or call (843-3125) Lorraine Ryalls.
DIOCESAN YOUTH CONVENTION – Any high schoolers (including rising freshmen) who are interested in attending the diocesan Youth Convention July 18-20 please contact Lorraine. This is a great opportunity to spend time with other Catholic teens while you learn, play and pray! Angela Bui can answer questions from a teen’s perspective if you’d like the real ‘scoop.’
ALTAR FLOWERS
The flowers in the vases on either side of the altar this weekend were given by OLBS PARISHIONERS in THANKSGIVING FOR THE SUCCESSFUL VISIT OF POPE BENEDICT XVI TO THE UNITED STATES.
If you wish to donate flowers, please fill in your name and the intention on the list which is posted on the back bulletin board. For further information, call Pat or Wini Barron at 843-2522.

OLBS SCHOLARSHIP
Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church will provide a scholarship to a deserving high school senior (an active member of OLBS parish) to be used to continue his/her education after graduation. It may be used at an accredited two- or four-year college, university, or at a vocational-technical school.
Copies of the Scholarship Application are at the back of the church. Deadline to submit the application is May 26th.
The Ladies of the Knights of Columbus will be awarding two $500 scholarships. Any high school senior who is an active member of OLBS may apply. Applications are available in the back of the church.
COMMUNITY LIFE COMMITTEE
VOLUNTEERS NEEDED!
John and Marge Kellam are asking for ladies (and gentlemen) to join the Community Life Committee.
Duties include helping with food service at the monthly Senior Luncheons September through May, (some luncheons are held at local restaurants, so all you have to do is attend and enjoy the fellowship), set up, clean up; helping with food service at funeral receptions; and helping with church suppers and other functions.
None of the duties are especially onerous or time consuming. If we have enough members of the Committee, we can even stagger assignments.
This Committee is so important to our Parish Life, as well as providing outreach to seniors and the bereaved. Please consider joining this Committee – you will be made welcome with open arms and hearts!
RECTORY AVAILABLE FOR RENT
If you or anyone you know is interested in renting the Rectory, please let the office know. We are asking $850 per month rent, plus $850 security deposit.
CONGRATULATIONS
We would like to congratulate James Conklin on his acceptance into the Diaconate Program of the Diocese of Richmond.
We would like to ask all parishioners to keep him and his family in their prayers during the course of his years of preparation.
JOIN THE NETWORK!
Sign up with the Virginia Catholic Conference web site (www.vacatholic.org) and let your voice be heard on high priority items and critical issues coming before the Virginia legislature. It’s free, it’s easy, and raises the volume to legislators.
NATIONAL DAY OF PRAYER
May 1st, 2008
The West Point Ministers’ Association invites the citizens of the Town of West Point, as well as the surrounding counties and communities, to join together in praying for our:
COUNTY
COMMUNITY
TOWN
STATE
NATION
on Thursday, May 1st, 2008 from 12:00 am to 12:00 midnight (24 hours).
You are asked to commit to praying in at least fifteen minute segments (or more) so we can have someone praying all day long.
You are asked to pray wherever you are at the time for which you have signed up to pray. To sign-up to pray at a specific time, call Nancy Kerby (804-843-2964) and give her your name. To cover the entire twenty-four hours, we will need at least ninety-six persons to commit to do this. But we hope to have many more of you sharing in this "Day of Prayer," with several people praying at the same time, in each segment.
Rev. Marvin Kerby, on behalf of
West Point Ministers’ Association
OLBS 90TH ANNIVERSARY MEMORIBILIA
We are still looking for photographs, newspaper articles, programs/brochures, and anything else you may have from the early (and not so early) days of the parish. We would like to incorporate these items into the grand celebration in November, and make them a part of our parish history. All items will be scanned and returned to you unharmed. We would also like your verbal reminiscences of funny, moving, and other experiences you may have had with previous pastors, parishioners, or community events. Call Susan Thompson at 843-3993.
