WELCOME NEW PARISHIONERS
Please welcome the following new and returned parishioners to our faith community:
Donna Marquardt, her husband Peter, and daughter Katie.
Robyn McCormick and her son Michael.
Both families live in West Point.
OLBS SCHOLARSHIP
Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church will provide a scholarship to a deserving high school senior (an active member of OLBS parish) to be used to continue his/her education after graduation. It may be used at an accredited two- or four-year college, university, or at a vocational-technical school.
Copies of the Scholarship Application are at the back of the church. Deadline to submit the application is May 26th.
The Ladies of the Knights of Columbus will be awarding two $500 scholarships. Any high school senior who is an active member of OLBS may apply. Applications are available in the back of the church.
COMMUNITY LIFE COMMITTEE
VOLUNTEERS NEEDED!
John and Marge Kellam are asking for ladies (and gentlemen) to join the Community Life Committee.
Duties include helping with food service at the monthly Senior Luncheons September through May, (some luncheons are held at local restaurants, so all you have to do is attend and enjoy the fellowship), set up, clean up; helping with food service at funeral receptions; and helping with church suppers and other functions.
None of the duties are especially onerous or time consuming. If we have enough members of the Committee, we can even stagger assignments.
This Committee is so important to our Parish Life, as well as providing outreach to seniors and the bereaved. Please consider joining this Committee – you will be made welcome with open arms and hearts!
RECTORY AVAILABLE FOR RENT
If you or anyone you know is interested in renting the Rectory, please let the office know. We are asking $850 per month rent, plus $850 security deposit.
JOIN THE NETWORK!
Sign up with the Virginia Catholic Conference web site (www.vacatholic.org) and let your voice be heard on high priority items and critical issues coming before the Virginia legislature. It’s free, it’s easy, and raises the volume to legislators.
OLBS 90TH ANNIVERSARY MEMORABILIA
We are still looking for photographs, newspaper articles, programs/brochures, and anything else you may have from the early (and not so early) days of the parish. We would like to incorporate these items into the grand celebration in November, and make them a part of our parish history. All items will be scanned and returned to you unharmed. We would also like your verbal reminiscences of funny, moving, and other experiences you may have had with previous pastors, parishioners, or community events. Call Susan Thompson at 843-3993.
CHOIR PRACTICE
Wednesday – May 7th – 7 p.m.
Wednesday – May 21st – 7 p.m.
BELL CHOIR PRACTICE
Sundays – 11:15 to 12:30

The Ladies of the K of C will be selling First Communion items after Masses this weekend.
ENDOWED CHAIR FOR CATHOLIC STUDIES
UVA
Father Gerald Fogarty SJ, faculty, University of Virginia, will be in Virginia Beach to seek support for the Endowed Chair for Catholic Studies at UVA. He will speak at Bishop Sullivan Catholic High School, May 8, in the James Barry Robinson Theater, 7:30 pm. His address will be "Saints and Sinners in Virginia Catholic History". Father Fogarty will also host a Wine and Cheese Reception at St. Nicholas Parish, Virginia Beach, May 10, 6:45 pm, in the Social Hall. Please join in supporting this significant Catholic contribution to Catholic education in the Old Dominion.
OLBS SCHOLARSHIP COLLECTION
WEEKEND OF MAY 10TH & 11TH
This is one of two special collections (the next one is June 8th) to build up the OLBS Scholarship Fund, which is awarded yearly to a deserving high school senior who wishes to go on to a college, university, or technical school. Please be generous! This is an investment in their future as well as our own.
2008 BISHOP’S APPEAL
Our parish goal for this year’s appeal is $3301.
All of us have an opportunity to be Stewards of Discipleship by sharing our gifts to help support the wider Church of Richmond through the 2008 Bishop’s Appeal. The programs supported by the Appeal respond to the spiritual and physical needs of people across our diocese. This important religious, educational and charitable work goes beyond what an individual parish alone can accomplish. Your contribution to the Bishop’s Appeal is a sign of support to other Catholics in the Diocese of Richmond.
THANK YOU
Dear Friends:
We are most grateful for your recent gift. As we continue to celebrate Easter, we recognize the presence of Christ in concern for the poor and in every sacrificial gift.
At the Good Neighbor Center we seek to affirm the dignity of each of our clients. We do not give "handouts," but share a portion of that which has been entrusted to us. In doing so we recognize that God has made us stewards, rather than owners, of all we have. As we share, we also offer hope.
Rising grocery prices certainly have been reflected at our pantry, with a significant outflow of nonperishable food items over the past couple of months. As ever, your participation in this ministry is appreciated beyond words.
