Flowers for September 10-11, are donated by Melvina Gooch in loving memory of her father, Melvin Gooch, on the 15th anniversary of his death.
Thank you to Maria Frederick for donating the icon of Our Lady of Czetochowa, which has been placed on the back altar with St. Theresa, Our Lady of Guadalupe, and Our Lady of LaVang.
For visitation of the sick and the homebound: If you would like to have Father Edgar visit someone, he requests that you accompany him (if possible) in visiting the sick/homebound for the first time. He will do the succeeding visits by himself. Thank you kindly!
We are in need of a 6th grade catechist as well as substitutes. Please share your faith with our young people, contact Lorraine Ryalls at 843-3125 or lkryalls2@verizon.net. In an effort to offer a safe environment for our children, interested persons must consent to a background check and attend a VIRTUS sexual abuse educational session.
Catechists for the 2011-2012 academic year are asked to attend the September 11th (10:30 a.m.) formation meeting if they did not attend the session on August 29th.

POPCORN THEOLOGY

We will view A Man for All Seasons, the story of Sir Thomas More who was beheaded because he was the only member of the Privy Council who was against King Henry divorcing Catherine in order to marry Anne of Boelyn.
Sunday Bible study begins a new session on September 18th at 10:30 a.m. and Tuesday Bible study will begin on September 20th at 7:00 p.m. Both classes will begin with a DVD study of "The Mass." All are welcome to join one of these groups.
Parents are invited to attend a General Parent Session to discuss the partnership of home and religious education classes. In addition, you will receive information about the Diocese’s new curriculum guidelines and be given Parent Pages to show what your child will be learning in their particular grade level as well as age appropriate faith development and ideas for helping your children grow in their faith. Please attend ONE of the two sessions scheduled: Sunday, September 25th OR Sunday, October 2nd at 10:30 a.m.

You are cordially invited to an Open House for The Cathedral of the Sacred Heart, September 17 & 18. With great excitement, the Cathedral welcomes families of the diocese to this weekend event. All doors will be open for parishioners and guests to tour the entire complex. This will be a festive gathering with interactive activities for children, prizes for adults and food for everyone. Doors are open following all masses. Saturday Vigil, 5:15 p.m., Sunday, 9:00 a.m., 11:00 a.m. and 5:15 p.m.

CURSILLO is a three-day retreat that is fully sanctioned by the Catholic Church and the Diocese of Richmond. The retreats are put on by lay Catholics with the assistance of clergy. Anyone in good standing with the church is eligible to attend. If you are interested in learning more about Cursillo or participating in a weekend, ask a parish member at your church who has been on a Cursillo or contact the Central Virginia Coordinating Committee at 804-794-4558. The next Cursillo women’s weekend in the Central Virginia area is scheduled for October 13-16, 2011 at the Abbey. The next Cursillo men’s weekend is scheduled for February 16-19, 2012 at Shalom House.
