In 1999, Sacred Heart Parish created a Master Plan for the parish. The plan included painting the interior of the church - something that hadn't been done in about twenty-five years. This plan inspired a project which blossomed into a major refurbishing of the church. Plans were made to install new floor coverings and to refinish the pews. Lighting to highlight the unique architectural features of the church were included. There had never been a restroom in the church, so one was incorporated into the plan. The stations of the cross and statues were greatly in need of repair. New sanctuary furniture to complement the interior decoration of the church was designed. A fundraising campaign was launched to raise the $200,000 needed to complete this major undertaking. Volunteer labor was used in the areas of painting preparation, restroom construction, reupholstering the kneelers, etc. The project got underway in the fall of 2002 and is now complete.
While the
church was being refurbished, the parishioners worshipped in the
parish hall. The parish moved back into the church to celebrate the
great feast of Easter. The rededication of The Church of the Sacred
Heart of Jesus took place on June 29 of 2003.
Contributions to the project are still needed and can be sent to:
