'Conference of Risen Lord'

Introduction

SVP logoThe Society of St. Vincent de Paul (SVP) is the largest international charitable organization of lay people. The Parksite Society of St. Vincent de Paul is the 'Conference of Risen Lord'. The Conference of Risen Lord was established in the year 1990 under the guidance of Bombay Particular Council (NE) with initiatives from the then Parish Priest, Fr. Donath D'Souza. It is a charitable organization registered under Mumbai Public Trust Registration Act 1950.

History

The Society of St. Vincent de Paul was founded in 1833 by six university students in Paris, France under the patronage of St. Vincent de Paul. One of its main founding figures was Frederic Ozanam. Today the Society includes almost 900,000 members spread among 46,000 confraternities in 130 countries of five continents.

The Society of St. Vincent de Paul was officially recognized by Church authorities in Gregory XVI's briefs of 10 January and 12 August 1845, and has been confirmed by succeeding Popes. It has always faithfully retained its lay status, the essential immutable element which characterizes it.

Mission

The Society's purpose is to provide direct aid to those who suffer, and to help individuals reduce and even eliminate the causes of their suffering, themselves. Society members use their own resources, sharing not only possessions but the valuable gift of their presence.

The Society of St. Vincent de Paul, one of the oldest charitable social and humanitarian organizations, is seen today as a huge international movement of the apostolate of charity and social action. Thanks to the spiritual bonding and human formation of its members it wants to witness to the fraternal love of Christ among the poorest.
