SACRED HEART PARISH HISTORY

The church is the focal point of devotion in the life of a parish and as the early Catholic settlers of Annawan gathered together to worship, to plan and build a church for themselves and their descendants, the present day members of Sacred Heart Church, guided by their pastor, have replaced the old structure with this new church to be used by themselves and their descendants to honor and glorify God.

The records of the parish indicate that the first baptism was that of Stephanie, daughter of Adolph and Helen Reynolds Ribley on January 14th, 1894, in the home of her parents. The first marriage recorded was that of Peter and Louise DeReu on April 9, 1894, and the first funeral was that of Augustine Fordign, age 60, on June 4, 1894.
