A FEW
THOUGHTS from FATHER JOSEPH
Praised be Jesus Christ now and forever. We always thank God for the gifts He provides us with. This past Sunday, we celebrated Father’s Day, as we also celebrated the greatest gift and Sacrament of God, our Heavenly Father, has provided us with, the Holy Eucharist. We also pray to God for help in our times of need. Unfortunately, this past week has been trying for many of us, as the spiritual father of Sts. John and Paul, our Pastor, Fr. Brian E. McWeeney has been hampered by illness. Father was diagnosed with diabetes. Conversely, I implore every one of the Sts. John and Paul family to pray for Father in his time of physical and spiritual trial. Father wants to assure every one of his love and prayers. He is in good spirits and feeling better already but he will hospitalized for an undetermined period of time, for healing and further examination.
I also ask you to pray for me during this time. As you well know, I am still wet behind the ears and getting adjusted to life outside the seminary walls. I will need all of your support and prayers during this time, especially, since I am a novice at parish administration. You are in my daily prayers and will continue to be. From the bottom of my heart, I want to thank everybody for their hospitality and kindness. Since the first day I walked into the parish, everyone has gone out of their way to make sure I am comfortable and well acclimated. Along the way, I know I will make mistakes (and I apologize now for them) simply because of inexperience. However, I can promise you that my intentions are in the right place.
I look forward to getting to know each of you. I also pray that God uses me as he intends to here at Sts. John and Paul. I beg the Lord to keep us together directed towards Him, no matter what, and that His will is done. The Church Fathers remind us that a good priest is like a sheet of glass in front of Jesus Christ. By prayer and hard work, may I keep that sheet of glass as clean as possible, so that we all may be able to clearly see what is behind it.
Please feel free to call upon me any time, as I am here to serve you. Again, please keep Fr. Brian in your prayers. May God bless you all.
Your servant in Christ,
Fr. Joseph
MARY
O Mary,
Bright dawn of the new world,
Mother of the living,
to you do we entrust the cause of life:
Look down, O Mother,
Upon the vast numbers
Of babies not allowed to be born,
Of the poor whose lives are made difficult,
Of men and women
Who are victims of brutal violence,
Of the elderly and the sick killed
By indifference of our misguided mercy.
Grant that all who believe in your Son
May proclaim the Gospel of Life
With honesty and love
To the people of our time.
Obtain for them the grace
To accept that Gospel
As a gift ever new,
The joy of celebrating it with gratitude
Throughout their lives
And the courage to bear witness to it
Resolutely, in order to build,
together with all people of good will,
the civilization of truth and love,
to the praise and glory of God,
the Creator and lover of life.
