Confirmation Requirements

outside of the requirement to attend classes January-May (SJP school during school time)

in preparation for Confirmation on May 17, 2008

 

 

Registration form    Please bring to the first meeting.           

DUE:  November 27, 2007

 

Enrollment Liturgy:  Sunday, December 9, 2007 at 12 noon Mass in the Church.

All students and their families attend this ceremony.  The students sign an agreement to fulfill all the requirements for Confirmation.

 

Student Retreat

All students attend a retreat day on Saturday, January 12, 2008 at 10am in the auditorium.  (Those unable to attend because of important family functions will participate in Confirmation Retreat days at designated parishes in Westchester.)

 

Second Parent/Candidate Meeting:  Tuesday, January 23, 2008 at 7:30pm in the auditorium.   More on the theology of Confirmation with Fr. Brian.   

 

Saint Report

Each candidate is required to write a 1-2 page essay on the saint whose name s/he has chosen for Confirmation.  The essay must contain the history of the saint, what his/her accomplishments were, and the reason why that name was picked.  (Please bring it to our second meeting---along with your parents!)

Letter to the Bishop

Each candidate is required to write a letter to Bishop Dennis Sullivan stating what Confirmation means and why he/she wants to be confirmed.  The format will be discussed and a sample letter will be passed out in class.    

DUE: Wed., March 12, 2008

 

Service Hours

Each student is required to do 20 hours of community service.  The students have purple forms to be filled out as a record of their service projects. PRELIMINARY CHECK:  February 10, 2008  (Turn in forms for hours completed up to that date.)

Sponsor Affidavit

Your sponsor should have this signed at his/her own parish.      

DUE:  March 30, 2008

 

Letter to Sponsor

Each student will write a personal letter to her/his sponsor telling them why they chose this person.  

DUE:  give this directly to your sponsor at the rehearsal on May 13 at 7:30-8:45pm for the Wednesday classes ; 

May 14 from 7:30-8:45pm for SJP School, Sunday classes and private school students.
