PARISH COUNCIL

The Parish Council is responsible for assisting the Pastor in carrying out his vision of what the parish should be His vision leads to policies and programs formulated with advice from the Council and parishioners. The Parish Council consists of 16 elected members, several designated appointed members, as well as two lay trustees. The elected members are currently chosen by popular vote of our fellow parishioners and serve a term of two years. Eight Council Members are elected each year creating overlapping terms and maintaining continuity.
The Council meets ten times a year. We welcome your questions about any aspect of Sts. John and Paul and we encourage your active participation in the spiritual and social life of your parish.

PARISH SCHOOL PARENTS ASSOCIATION (PSPA)

The Parish School Parents Association is involved on a daily basis with the life of our children at Sts. John and Paul School. It is responsible for funding and implementing many of the programs at SJP which make it an extraordinary parish school. The PSPA coordinates the lunchroom supervision, staffs the library with volunteers and contributes funding to wards the hiring of the Classroom Aides, the school Psychologist, the Art program, the Spanish Program and the Computer program. It publishes the SJP yearbook, coordinates the Pizza Lunch, the Surprise Lunch and the After School Programs. The PSPA is able to finance these programs primarily from the proceeds of the annual fundraiser that is held each spring. The fundraiser is an opportunity for all school families to participate in a way that directly benefits every student

PARISH RELIGIOUS EDUCATION ASSOCIATION (SRA)

The Parish Religious Education Association is made up of all the families of the children in Sts. John and Paul's Religious Education Program. Our goal is to assist the Program and the Coordinator in areas where needed. Each family is encouraged to take an active part in the SRA. The SRA is responsible for class mothers, baking for special events, volunteering as corridor aides, hospitality at Sacramental meetings and Sacramental days and fundraising through our annual bake sale held in the late winter months. Meetings are held approximately every month.

RESPECT LIFE COMMITTEE

Our group is dedicated to uphold the sanctity of human life, especially the rights of the unborn. We promote active support for all Church programs at the local, diocesan, and national levels that encourage a positive approach to protecting the unborn.

SOCIAL MINISTRY COMMITTEE

Jesus calls us to "love one another as I have loved you." This committee is dedicated to helping us as individuals and as a faith community to carry out Christ's command, assisting our brothers and sisters in the parish and in neighboring areas, as needs arise.
Some of our ministries are:

Food Bank:

described separately.

The Bereaved:

Sts. John and Paul offers Masses in January, May, and September for recently deceased parish members and their families. After these Masses, we hold receptions in the Rectory Meeting Room by written invitation.

New Babies:

After each christening, we send a card of congratulations with a Miraculous Medal as a gift from the parish to the new child.

The Sick:

Sts. John and Paul tries to send greeting cards to each hospitalized parishioner. Please be sure to inform the Rectory if you or a family member or friend is hospitalized. Prayers for recovery can always help and a get-well note certainly doesn't hurt.

Unwed Mothers:

Each year we dedicate our energies in May to collect baby clothing, diapers and financial support for unwed mothers at Rosalie Hall, Our Lady of Mercy Medical Center in the Bronx. This ministry is a very positive way to provide support for those mothers who have chosen life and accepted the responsibility to love and care for their babies. Please contact us to become part of the effort.

THE WOMEN'S GUILD

The Guild's purpose is "to foster the spiritual interest of members, and to promote the general activities of the parish." It devotes itself to the care and maintenance of the altar and sanctuary. It has a number of social and fund-raising activities including guest speakers, days of recollection, monthly bridge parties and more.
