Student Activities and Clubs

Student Council
The Student Council is newly elected each year among the students of the Jr. High. A student must be in
academic good standing and show leadership qualities to be eligible for election to the Student Council. Under
the supervision of a staff member, the Student Council is presented many opportunities throughout the year to
responsibly carry out its leadership role in the school (see Appendix 3 for a list of elected officers).

Class Officers
Each Jr. High grade elects class officers for the year. Each class (6-8) elects a President, Vice President,
Secretary, Treasurer and three Representatives from each homeroom to serve as class leaders. These
individuals are charged with carrying out various community building efforts and activities during the year and are
given the responsibility of watching over and promoting the general welfare of the class throughout the year. It is
their added responsibility to promote school-wide activities and events among their classmates (see Appendix 3
for a list of class officers).

Choir
The student choir consists of Jr. High students. Emphasis is placed on the role of a choir to enhance the
prayerful atmosphere of a liturgical celebration and make it a meaningful and moving experience for the
community. Students are encouraged to participate as cantors, song leaders, and instrumentalists.

Parent Guild, Student, Family, Staff Events and Programs
Annual Staff Luncheon
The Parent Guild sponsors a Staff Luncheon every other month to express our gratitude to the dedicated staff of
SJRCS. Other Staff appreciation events are held throughout the year.

Blue Ribbon Program
St. Joseph Regional Catholic School is proud to be awarded the Blue Ribbon Award from the New Hampshire
Partners in Education. NH Partners in Education (NHPIE) is a non-profit organization dedicated to enhancing the
quality of education in New Hampshire through school volunteerism and community involvement. NHPIE helps
establish, implement and strengthen volunteer programs for schools and their communities.

Campbell Soup Labels
Campbell Soup Labels for Education is a program sponsored by Campbell Soup Company so that schools may
purchase equipment. This involves saving labels or UPC codes from a variety of products. This is an ongoing
fundraiser that is easy to do and cost nothing. Just remember to save those labels!

Family Mass & Pot Luck Supper
During Catholic Schools Week, parents and families are invited to SJRCS.

Family Directory
Our Family Directory is available to all families and is sent home in Sept./Oct. Listing your information in the
directory is strictly voluntary and the information is intended for the personal use of SJRCS families only. This is
not published on the website..

Family Mentoring
The Family Mentoring Program started in 2001 as a way to connect new families to the school community by
offering the support of another SJRCS family. Each new family is assigned a Family Mentor who is available
throughout the year to answer questions regarding grade related topics, school-wide activities and events.
Family Mentors generally have children 1 - 2 grades older than the new family in order to relay personal previous
grade experiences and expectations. Only a phone call, email away, we encourage new families to utilize their
assigned mentors.

Father/Daughter Breakfast
A time to remember, indeed. This special morning consists of a continental breakfast shared by proud fathers
and their daughters in grade 5 - 8. This is a time for sharing.

Grandparents Day
Grandparents are invited to a special liturgy and have lunch with their grandchildren.

All Saints Event
The Parent Guild sponsors the annual All Saints Event which begins with All Saints Liturgy and includes the
entire school. Stay tuned to the weekly newsletter to see what form this event takes in the future.

Ice Cream Social
Held the night of the Cash Raffle, the Ice Cream Social brings SJRCS families together to indulge in their own
sundae creations.

Mother/Son Breakfast
This event is a time set aside for sons in grades 5 - 8 to enjoy social time with their mothers and friends. It will
be a continental breakfast.

Newsletter
Our weekly newsletter, The Eagle Post comes home every Thursday with the oldest child or via e-mail. This is
the main communication tool of the school. Please make sure you read this each week. A version will also be
available on the website. Submissions are due each Tuesday for Publication in the newsletter. The newsletter is
published by SJRCS.

Orientation
New student orientation is held in late August each year. On this day, the faculty, staff and Parent Guild are
available to offer help and information to new students and parents.

Raffle
The Parent Guild Way & Means Task Force organizes two major fundraising events every year, a cash raffle and
an auction. These events are used to meet the Diocesan requirement of raising 5% of the school's operational
budget through fundraising. Additionally these events raise money to provide student enrichment programs. The
Parent Guild has developed these events with the philosophy that it didn't want several small fundraisers and
the involvment of the students should be minimal. In other words we did not what many events such as
magazine sales, cookie sales, wrapping paper sales, etc. which involved the students in solicitation activities.
The Cash Raffle begins in August. There are 10 prizes given out in November at the Ice Cream Social. Each
family is asked to sell five tickets @ $50.00.

Reading Enrichment
Our Education Task Force works with the staff to promote reading through the Reading Enrichment Program.
Students are encourage to read and age appropriate incentives are used. Stay tuned to the newsletter for details.

Grade Parent Program
The Grade Parent Program provides support for each class from grades 1-8 to assist teachers in finding
parents to help with holiday parties, special projects, copying and so on. In addition to the classroom
responsibilities, Grade Parents are asked to find additional volunteers from their classroom to help with the
many school wide events. Please note Grade Parents will not be running these events but merely assisting in
the volunteer search for baking, decorating, etc.

Silent Auction
The Parent Guild organizes two major fundraising events every year, a cash raffle and an auction. These events

event of the year! There is great food, and dancing. The Silent Auction features sports memorabilia, computer
equipment, specialty baskets, restaurant and hotel packages, gift certificates and a lot more. We are looking
forward to seeing everyone there!

Spelling Bee
The Spelling Bee is run under the auspices of the Lawrence Eagle Tribune who sponsors the Annual Scripps
Howard Regional Spelling Bee. It takes place during the month of February with grades 5 - 8 participating. There
are six contestants and one alternate from each grade. Every contestant receives a lamp of knowledge medal.
The winner from each grade is awarded a trophy and the overall winner also receives a $100. US Savings Bond
and a certificate in the Eagle Tribune Regional Bee and if successful, in the Annual Scripps Howard National
Spelling Bee in Washington, DC. We follow the Scripps Howard Rules and the students are given copies of the
book "Words of Champions" to help prepare for the school spelling bee.

Staff Appreciation
Periodically the Parent Guild sponsors a events for the staff of SJRCS. It is a small gesture to show our
appreciation.

Student Enrichment Program
The Parent Guild is proud to provide funds to support the Student Enrichment Program, which enrich our
children's everyday educational experience. Outside educators and artist come to the school and present
programs designed for various grade levels.

Thanksgiving Food Drive
Each Thanksgiving the students and parents of SJRCS are asked to participate in the food drive. The food
collected is distributed to needy families throughout the five parishes represented by SJRCS. Students learn the
spirit of giving and thankfulness by making the holidays special for those less fortunate than themselves. Further
information will be sent home in November.

Victorian Tea Party
This traditional event is for mothers and daughters. Young girls can choose to bring their favorite doll or teddy
bear and spend the afternoon sipping juice and eating special treats.

Walkathon
The Walk-A-Thon is held in June. The students participate in this event and raise funds for something different
every year such as landscaping improvements, new textbooks and more.
