Sports
Any student who wishes to participate in the SJRCS sports
program must abide by the established student activities
guidelines and academic stipulations. An athletic fee of
thirty dollars ($35.00) is incurred by each student for each
sport s/he participates in. Only one fee per family per activity.
While participation in some sports is open to any student
who is interested and willing to be a member of the team,
other sports have a limited number of participants and
tryouts are conducted to determine the final team roster.
The coaches make the final decisions as to who makes the
team.
Our coaches are usually parent volunteers who generously
give their time and effort to provide these sports
opportunities for our students. They must be given total
respect by all team members and parents at all times.
A. Cross Country
The cross-country season runs from August through
October. The cross country team is open to students in
grades 5 - 8. The team trains for races which are
approximately two and two-tenths miles long over varied
terrain - around grassy soccer fields, over pavement, and on
dirt paths through wooded areas which have carefully
placed tree roots. Practices last one hour beginning
immediately after school. Cross country meets are run at
other schools (we do not have the facilities to host a meet
ourselves) during the week and usually after school. The Tri-
County and the New Hampshire State meets are held on
two consecutive Saturdays in October of each year. All
eligible team members are expected to participate in all
meets.
B. Basketball
SJRCS fields both a boys and a girls basketball team. The
basketball season runs from the beginning of November
through the end of February. Basketball is open to grades 6-
8. The team rosters are limited so all interested students
must try out for the team. Team practices are held several
times weekly in the gym and all team members are
expected to make all practices. Our teams participate in the
Catholic Schools League and the Tri-County League.
C. Softball
The SJRCS girls softball is open to grades 6-8 and the
team has a limited roster. A softball clinic is usually hosted
in March with the tryouts immediately after. Practices are
held several times each week. The team competes in the
Tri-County League. The competitive season consists of
both home and away games. Home games are played on
the field at Soule School.
