Saints Philip and James School. Children singing.

Spirituality

Christ is the center of our life and His presence is experienced by becoming one with Him and each other.  We allow His presence to permeate every action of our lives in school--through study, prayer, worship, sharing, and community service. Thus the very essence of our curriculum is Christ. Both the religious and academic nature of purpose are aspects of this single environment--making Christ and what He means to our society, present in the lives of the members of our school community.

Christ becomes our environment through our acceptance of His Gospel, through our experience of His teachings as we minister to each other in this Catholic school.   To this end, our children receive formal, structured, daily religious education, which is just as important as the unstructured religious instruction that permeates every experience of their day. Therefore, at Saints Philip and James School, each day is begun with prayer, which lifts our minds and hearts to God. Monthly whole-school Masses, individualized classroom Masses, celebrations for the other Sacraments and visits by our chaplains make avenues of worship readily available to our students, faculty, and staff.

The life our school community is centered around the Eucharist.   This sharing in the Bread of Life, impacts how we nurture each other and carry Christ’s message of hope through our lives to touch the lives of others.  Our school is an active community of faith.

Because of our faith, our teachers foster a caring environment.   Each year they recommit themselves to minister to our children, changing their focus from teaching our students, to serving our students. They also minister to each other. Professionally, they share ideas, materials and support each other with cognitive suggestions. Truly, they try to Teach As Jesus Did.”
