THE LONG AND SHORT OF IT... TIME TO GIVE UP THOSE SSPJ SHORTS!
As of October 16, pack away those SSPJ gym shorts 'til spring: children may choose SSPJ T-shirts all year long for
gym days if that makes them more comfortable. SSPJ sweat shirts are always an option!
PROTECTING GOD'S CHILDREN
There will be a "Protecting God's Children" seminar on Monday, October 9 at 6:00 p.m. in St. Philip and St. James
Meeting Room. Please be prompt and be advised children will not be allowed to attend. Thank You.
Spirit of Christmas
'Twas months before Christmas and all through the school there remained thoughts
of summer and the days at the pool...
That's right folks... it might still be two months away, but it's time to mark your calendar for the Spirit of Christmas, Breakfast With
Santa. This year's visit from the Pole is schedules for Saturday morning, December 9, 2006 in the school cafeteria. This fun event is for
all our SSPJ families and friends and has been a part of the SSPJ holiday tradition for years. The morning begins with a hearty breakfast
prepared by unusually large elves. After enjoying your meal there are activities for the kids and, of course, an opportunity for boys and girls
of all ages to visit with Santa! To top it all off, we will once again be opening Santa's Secret Holiday Workshop in the Holy Family Library
(the secret is how it gets in there unnoticed by all) to provide children with an opportunity to find that perfect gift for a loved one. The
workshop will be full of gifts for Mom, Dad, grandparents, brothers, sisters, aunts, uncles, cousins, and best friends, too! Of course, gift
wrapping is offered free of charge.
Be sure to join us for this festive event, which is sure to be a hit for children of all ages. Look for ticket information and event details
in future newsletters, but mark the date now so you don't miss it during the busy holiday season.
**Since Santa's regular elves are so busy prepping for the big day we are always in need of volunteers to help make the event special for our children.
No prior elfing experience is required. We need help with set-up/decoration , activities coordination, workshop management, meal prep, and of course
everyone's favorite, clean-up. If you can spare some time or have any questions regarding this year's breakfast, please contact Mr. Morris or
email Santa.
"HAPPY CHRISTMAS TO ALL AND TO ALL A GOOD-NIGHT."

RULE #5 "DO NOT BRAG ABOUT YOURSELF--IF YOU WIN OR
DO WELL AT SOMETHING, DO NOT BRAG. IF YOU LOSE, DO NOT SHOW ANGER...
...Instead, say something like, "I really enjoyed the competition, and I look
forward to playing you again," or "Good game," or don't say anything at all. To show anger or sarcasm, such as "I wasn't playing hard anyway.
You really aren't that good," shows weakness.
If you are good at something, others will recognize it. There is no need to tell others how talented you are because by bragging about yourself,
you are seen in a negative light and people won't care about what skills you may have." -RON CLARK

CHESS CLUB TO BEGIN!
Chess Club is ready to begin! There are a few changes to this year's program.
This year chess club is open to those students in second through eighth grade. It will meet in the cafeteria on Wednesdays.
There will be three "Instructional Chess" days available to any grade 2 - 8 student who would like to learn how to play. These students need
to attend all three dates in order to learn the game and to add to the enjoyment of everyone in Chess Club.
- WHEN: Instructional Chess: October 11, October 18, October 25
Chess Club will be held on Wednesdays: 1st meeting - November 8
- WHERE: Instructional Chess as well as regular Chess Club will meet in the school cafeteria.
- WHAT TO BRING/WHAT NOT TO BRING: Chessboards are provided, but a student may bring his/her own. There are students at
Saints Philip and James with severe food allergies. We will be meeting in the school cafeteria and using many tables, therefore we ask that
our Chess Club families continue your awareness and sensitivity to this fact and not bring in a snack to Chess Club.
Last year our Chess Club boasted nearly thirty members! Come join us this year for a year of challenge and fun. As per school procedure,
please send in a note stating your child's intention of joining. Address the note to Miss Graham.
WORLDWIDE SCHOOL CHILDREN'S EUCHARISTIC AND MARIAN HOLY HOUR
"What enormous power the prayer of children has! This becomes a model for
grown-ups themselves: praying with simple and complete trust means praying as children pray... We must pray together and pray hard, that
humanity, made up of billions of human beings, may become more and more the family of God and able to live in peace." Pope John Paul II
As the Episcopal Moderator of the World Apostolate of Fatima, USA, Bishop Paul Bootkoski has asked that our children take part in a spiritually
powerful event.
The October 6 event is one of three days of prayer being sponsored by the World Apostolate of Fatima in thanksgiving for its elevation to a
"Public Association of the Faithful." On that day, the world broadcast has the potential to unite the prayers of children all over the world.
Our SSPJ children will be praying the Rosary in a united effort for world peace.
Making prayers of entrustment to the Immaculate Heart of Mary or other activities can be found on the
World Apostolate of Fatima's website.
