A VALENTINE'S DAY REMINDER FOR ROOM PARENTS

On Valentine's Day, your valuable room parenting skills will not be needed in the classroom. We only ask that on Wednesday morning (February 14th) you drop off a treat and/or craft for your class. This can be sent in via your child, or dropped off at the office. Kindly check in with your teacher and see what her expectations are. Thanks for all you do!

Memories of Catholic Schools Week

A whirl of a week, sped by as we squeezed every precious second from the days dedicated to us, the families of SSPJ!
Please enjoy the pictoral highlights of our fantastic week in your weekly packet. I also shared with you the letter that Bishop Bootkoski sent as well. How exciting to have his memory book, made by our children, gifted to the diocsan archives!
A million thanks and special blessings to all who helped make the week so special.

RULE #45
"NEVER CUT IN LINE."

"If you fuss with someone who has cut in line, you could get in trouble as well. It's not worth it. Always let an adult or teacher know if there is a dispute."
-RON CLARK-

Thank You

We would like to thank everyone for all their contributions during Catholic Schools Week. It proved to be even more exciting than anticipated. It started with a special visit by Bishop Bootkoski, where he was clearly impressed since he granted the school a day off! The eighth graders were victorious over the teachers in volleyball. Everyone experienced a great Bible Bowl. We welcomed a large attendance of prospective families at the Open House. Finally, the week ended in a snowy, but full and filled with fun Family Fun Night.
Thank you, Mrs. Sena, Mrs. Francisco, all the teachers and administration for all your efforts and hard work throughout the week. We would like to extend a special thank you to Mrs. Cicalese and her family for once again working hard to make having fun so easy on Friday Night. We would like to thank HSA Executive board members and their families for all their time and dedication throughout the week.
Finally, we would like to thank each of you for your help and support of the events last week. Whether it was helping your child prepare for the Bishop's visit, volunteering, or taking part in the fun, we all came together in classic SSPJ spirit. Everyone's commitment and contribution exemplified the core goals for Catholic Schools Week.
Thanks again,
Mr. & Mrs. Hilliard
HSA Co-Presidents

Letter from the Bishop

Dear Mrs. Sena
I really enjoyed visiting your school the other day. The presentations made by the kids were very well done, and I really appreciate the gifts and the memory book they gave me. After I showed the book to a couple of people, we decided to place it in the archives of the Diocese as a memory of the visit.
Thank you for your kind words - you are doing a great job! I will keep the staff and students in my prayers.
In the Lord,
Bishop Paul Bootkoski

Parents, We Need Your Help

The Urban Schools Scholarship Act is currently in both the New Jersey Assembly and Senate. Under this 5-year pilot program, eligible low-income children residing in Camden, Newark, Orange, and Trenton would receive scholarships to attend participating public or non-public schools.
Why should we promote and support this program? If this program becomes a bill, it will pave the way for other impoverished non-public schools to seek support and may one day lead to all families, whether low-income or not, to be eligible for such scholarships. In the current proposed Act, students from low-income families in the above cities would be eligible for scholarships enabling them to access out-of-district public schools and in- or out-of-district non-public schools. The scholarships are either the cost of tuition or up to $6,000.00 for each student in K through 8th grade and either the cost of tuition or up to $9,000.00 for grades 9th through 12th, whichever is less.
You can help pass this Act by contacting your legislative representatives below. Most of our families reside in District 23. Please either call or write to these legislative representatives and tell them that you have a child(ren) attending SSPJ and would like them to support the Urban Schools Scholarship Act when it comes to a vote in the Assembly and the Senate. Also, please ask them to support Titles II-D, IV, and V which provide funding to our Catholic schools in technology, drug and alcohol education, school safety measures and Innovative Programs. You can also email them at NJLeg.state.nj.us with the directions below:
District 23:

  • Senator Leonard Lance - Rep.: District Office- 119 Main Street, Flemington, NJ 08822 (908)788-6900
  • Assemblyman Michael J. Doherty: District Office- 127 Belvidere Ave., 2nd Floor, Washington, NJ 07882 (908)835-0552
  • Assemblywoman Marcia A. Karrow: District Office- 1 Maple Avenue, Flemington, NJ 08822 (908)782-5127
  • Email: go to NJleg.state.nj.us and to the left-hand side, there is a listing "Members." Under it, click on "Find your legislator," then on the right-hand side, click "Electronic Correspondence." Then select you Municipality, then select all the Representatives, then fill in the information requested.

B I N G O !

Unfortunately, we are in desperate need of BINGO workers to adequately staff the three weekly BINGO sessions (Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday) that are offered. Just last week several regular patrons had to help run the game I was calling. Without the volunteers to sell boards, call, staff the kitchen, 'call back' winning boards, and serve as member in charge, the popularity of SSPJ's BINGO will fade along with the assistance it provides the school. Please consider volunteering! It really is one of the simplest ways to meet the commitment we all made to support the school when we enrolled our children. Reinforce that commitment the Catholic Schools Week by calling the Church office at 454-0112 and signing up. I hope to see you there...
Mr. Morris
