A Visit From the Pope
The children are learning about Pope Benedict the 16th, as he arrives in the United States on April 15, 2008 through April 20, 2008.
On April 19, 2005, Joseph Cardinal Ratzinger was elected our 265th Pope. Pope Benedict XVI was selected by the 115 voting cardinals
on the fourth ballot in one of the briefest in modern times. In becoming the 265th Pope of the Church, Benedict also became the first
German Pope in nearly a millenium. At age 78, he was the oldest cardinal to be named Pop since Clement XII in 1730. His first words
to the people were, "Dear brothers and sisters, after the great Pope John Paul II, the cardinals have elected me, a simple, humble worker
in the vineyard of the Lord. I entrust myself to your prayers."
