Welcome to a wonderful school year! Please look for the Home
School Association Corner in every weekly newsletter. BISHOP BOOTKOSKI WITH THE ASSISTANCE OF MSGR. CORONA
LAUNCH A NEW YEAR FOR CATHOLIC EDUCATION IN OUR DIOCESE!
At the Cathedral of St. Francis on Sunday, September 10, there was
a gathering of the Catholic School's office, representing children, parents and administrators from each of the
schools in the Diocese of Metuchen. Bishop Bootkoski was our presiding celebrant and numerous priests concelebrated to share their
support for Catholic education. Msgr. Corona, Executive Director of Education, was the homilist who likened our
educational dedication to that of Ann Sullivan, the famous teacher of Helen Keller. Saints Philip and James School Picnic
Mark your calendar for our school picnic on Saturday, September 23rd. We will start the
evening with Mass at 4:00 p.m. and dinner will be served at 5:00 p.m.. We will end the
evening with a showing of "High School Musical" on Mary's lawn. Prior to the movie, Mrs.
Cicalese's dance class will be teaching the children the dance highlighted at the end of the
movie for added fun! If you would like to attend and have not responded, please respond
by Friday, September 15th by either submitting the picnic form to the office or calling Mrs. Hilliard.
INTERNET SAFETY SEMINAR - WEDNESDAY, NOV. 8TH
We are once again focusing on internet safety during the first HSA meeting scheduled for
Wednesday, November 8th. Guest speaker Detective Michael Tansey will provide the very
valuable insight, coaching, and advice as he has in the past to help all families effectively,
and more importantly, utilize the internet. He will explore general internet safety, information
pertaining to online predators, and how we all can keep our children safe. Detective Tansey
is personally driven to keep children safe as he looks out for his own children and
fortunately for us, has also adopted the children of SSPJ. The evening will prove to be an
enlightened, educational experience as Detective Tansey provides tools and suggestions to
keep your children safe. Since online predators are finding new ways everyday to exploit
our children, this seminar is worthy of your attendance even if you have attended in the past.
Basket Bonanza
Invite your friends and family to attend the Basket Bonanza, which
is scheduled for Friday, October 20th. Doors will open at 5:30PM. Bingo will begin at 7PM. Tricky Tray is also part of this
exciting evening! Mark your calendars to attend. Due to NJ State Law, no one under 18 is permitted to attend. Light refreshments will
be sold. The winners get to take home Longaberger baskets or pottery. Continue to watch the newsletter for more information. Any
questions, please call Mrs. Gorda.
WELCOME MS. THOMAS--OUR NEW MUSIC TEACHER!
WE WELCOME YOU TO OUR SSPJ FAMILY AND LOOK FORWARD TO A WONDERFUL,
MUSICAL YEAR!
We adults have Detective Tansey, and our children have Netsmartz! Bishop Bootkoski has
provided the software for grades K-8 to be guided (age appropriately) through the dangers to
be found on the Internet. Miss Dalrymple and/or Mrs. Francisco will facilitate the
presentation for each class. Visit NetSmartz.Org and meet the characters with your children.

will be getting a Scrip order form in your packet. OUR CUP RUNNETH OVER WITH GRATITUDE!
We are grateful to Mr. Lamberti for his volunteer work at Sts. Philip and James
School. Exxon has a grant program that encourages their employees to share their time and talent in schools and then they donate some treasure. Our children have been
amazed with laser and outer space experiments and presentations. It's a win-win situation for our students and school community. Thank you Mr. Lamberti and thank you Exxon for
your continued generosity!!!
