TIME AND TIDE WAIT FOR NO ONE ***Time, Talent, Treasure***

VERY IMPORTANT! EXTRA! EXTRA! TEMPUS FUGIT -- TIME IS OF THE ESSENCE!
Yes, SSPJ has revamped its time schedule! For many years, we have opened our doors at 7:30 AM. We have started praying before 8 AM and anyone arriving after 8:10 AM was considered TARDY. We also built 4 extra emergency days into our calendar.
This yearm we proposed a new innovative idea to the Diocesan Education Office. Ellen Ayoub, Superintendent and Msgr. Corons, our Pastor both gave their approvals.
Here's how it works:
Each day we are adding 10 minutes by beginning our prayer earlier and beginning our school day 10 minutes earlier. This cancels our need to figure in 4 emergency days. The hours necessary to meet all diocesan and state requirements will be surpassed.
We are excited about our innovative time schedule and will be assessing it for future self use as well as use by other schools.
DOORS OPEN AT 7:30 AM
LATE BELL RINGS AT 8:00 AM

Coming and Going

For our new families:
ARRIVAL-
Early drop-off is at 7:30 AM in the cafeteria.
Busers arrive and are escorted into the cafeteria after their backpacks are color-tagged.
Car riders may queue around the edge of the field for the child/ren to disembark the car.
First day for early childhood students, parents may park in the white-lined spaces and walk their children into the cafeteria.
DISMISSAL-
Parents wait on the cafeteria plaza for children to be dismissed.
Grades PK-8 are dismissed by grade
Bus riders wait in the gymnasium for the buses to arrive and are escorted to their buses daily.
After Care students gather in the gymnasium.

Savor the remainder of vacation and rest up for a spectacular 2007-08 school year at SSPJ!

Sailing the Waters of Hope 2007 - 2008!

Destination: Leaving from Eastern Europe and traveling the Siberian Transcontinental RR, catching our ship, sailing the Pacific, entering Canada through Alaska, and ultimately returning to the USA!
This fall we will feature "Oh! Canada!" as a bridging activity. We are coming home! Our lens will be diversified transportation with a special consideration of railroads.
See information from our past ports-of-call!

After School Care

Our After Care Program continues successfully. The experience and creativity of Miss Veal and all of her Assistant Providers continue to create a safe and nurturing learning environment for our students. After Care begins Sept. 4 - the first day of school for grades 1-8. If you have questions or require enrollment info, please contact Mrs. Francisco via the Main Office. Thank you for your cooperation. We look forward to great times!

You should have received a description and request form for our Junior High elective courses. You may choose one 3-day and one 2-day elective. PLEASE MAIL your requests to school. DO NOT HAND DELIVER. Read all descriptions and directions before returning.

Parties, Celebrations, Birthdays, and Holidays

Ah! Give me the simple life... We've made great progress. Along with our child wellness and nutrition program, your homeroom teachers and HSA room parents will be continuing to restructure the way we celebrate birthdays and holidays. Our sacrament of Eucharist is, after all, the breaking of the transformed bread. Yes, a carbohydrate was chosen by Christ to be transubstantiated into His very body. So, carbohydrates are a wonderful thing. Family meals are important, classroom celebrations a tradition, but when did all the sharing become: soda, cookies, candies, cake, etc. and foods of minimal nutritional value, all at the same time? Cheese and crackers, fresh fruit, veggies, and dip are also a fun way to celebrate. There are many choices and we have to reinvent our eating styles so they are healthier and varied. My Dad, a physician for more than 50 years, always said, "foods are good inmoderation, Irene, portion control is a healthy control!" I believe, father does know best! Perhaps fruit and a cookie would be pleasant an healthier? Each teacher will discuss class needs with families on "Back to School Night." This way, all dietary concerns and age-appropriate enjoyment is taken into consideration. Keep it simple! Keep it healthful! THANKS.
