Welcome to Saint Patrick Parish Ministry of Transportation to Mass for Senior Parishioners!
"You are the light of the world. A city set on a mountain cannot be hidden. Nor do they light a lamp and then put it under a bushel basket; it is set on a lampstand, where it gives light to all the house. Just so, your light must shine before others, that they may see your good deeds , and glorify your heavenly father." Mt: 5 14-16
This booklet is designed to assist you in your participation in the Ministry of Transportation to Mass for Senior Parishioners here at Saint Patrick Parish in Stoneham.
As a provider of transportation to Mass you are enabling a Senior parishioner to attend weekend Mass who would otherwise be unable to attend due to lack of transportation.
Your willingness to serve our Senior parishioners in this capacity reflects your response to your baptismal call to serve the people of God. This ministry also reflects the beacon of light that our Senior parishioners are to Saint Patrick Parish. Their shining example of love and service to others over the years has set forth the example that you now follow.
God bless your efforts!
General Ministry Information
- Support Person: Mary Price @ 781-438-0960
- Providers of Transportation need to be comfortable with the elderly, dependable, punctual, and courteous. Arrangements as to time and day of Mass attendance are to be made between the Senior parishioner and the volunteer.
- Follow established procedure when reporting any mishap or accident while providing transportation.
- Length of commitment: A minimum of one year is expected. At the end of the year, after review and if mutually agreeable, you may of course volunteer for a longer length of time.
- CORI: ( Criminal Offender Record Inquiry) Archdiocesan policy requires that CORI requests be completed for all volunteers who minister to children, youth, the elderly and the disabled. Conducting CORI checks not only ensures our compliance with the law protecting these populations, but, more importantly, indicates care and concern for those we serve. It is a process of prevention, not suspicion.
You will be asked to complete a CORI form. Please be advised that we are mandated to submit these forms for each person working with the CORI or youth. The State of Massachusetts does not demand that the volunteer sign the form to authorize the CORI process when the person is working with these populations.
- Automobile Insurance Coverage
If volunteers are injured while performing their ministry duties-per the role description-the volunteers' own insurance becomes the primary coverage. The Archdiocese carries excess insurance that can be activated if the volunteer's personal health insurance is exhausted.
Volunteers who, in the course of their service, may cause an injury to the person to whom they minister are included as "insureds" under the Archdiocese of Boston General Liability Insurance Policy. The policy will defend the volunteer as long as there is not an intentional criminal act. This means that the assets of the volunteer are not jeopardized in the event an action is brought against him or her.
Volunteers using their own cars for ministry must have a valid driving license, a properly registered vehicle and insurance as required by law.
If a volunteer uses his or her own car in ministry, that person's automobile insurance is primary i.e. automobile insurance always follows ownership of the vehicle. In certain circumstance a volunteer may also benefit from the Archdiocesan liability insurance coverage.
(Insurance information provided by the Archdiocesan Insurance Department)
- In the event of an accident while providing transportation please follow the established reporting procedures to the local police and your own insurance company. You must also promptly notify:
