Special Photo Reports - Cupola Repair To St. Patrick Old School Building

St. Patrick Parish had some interesting excitement on the Tuesday after Labor Day, Sept. 4, 2001. The ongoing maintenance of the parish property took an interesting twist when the cupola of the old school building had its maintenance repair and painting. The cupola houses the exhaust system of the old school building and is maintained to keep the exhaust in good shape.
Which brings us to the events of Tuesday the fourth. With a slate roof, access to the cupola cannot be had by ladders from the outside of the building. (There would be a grave danger of accident.) So access was provided by a crane, which lifted Kevin McLaughlin and his assistant from the parking lot ground launch area to the cupola. From the basket they had access to the structure and performed the necessary maintenance and painting of the cupola.
This work required that the workers be strapped into the crane basket for safety. All passersby noted that Kevin had dropped his usual effervescent banter and was deadly serious for this work. However, he did invite any priest of the parish to join him and his helper in the ride to the top. Strangely, they did it alone.

The final result was a brightly painted, green trimmed, maintained cupola doing its ventilation work for Grades K through 4.

Many thanks, Kevin.
