Directions

The Cathedral is located in the Oakland section of the city of Pittsburgh. It is bounded by Craig and Dithridge streets on Fifth Avenue. The parish office is a small building located at the corner of Fifth and Dithridge with the entrance on Dithridge.

Oakland is a short 3.5 miles from downtown Pittsburgh and easy accessed via I-376 (the Parkway) traveling eastbound.

Oakland is adjacent to the Shadyside, Bloomfield, and Squirrel Hill neighborhoods of the city, easily accessed by Fifth or Forbes Avenues.

Parking

Forbe Avenue at CraigWhile a small amount of parking is available adjacent to the Cathedral on the Dithridge side, street parking is available as well as a commercial garage one block south at the corner of Dithridge and Henry.

Parking is also available at the large Carnegie Museum lot three short blocks south at the corner of Craig Street and Forbes Avenue.

Special Needs Access

The Dithridge side of the Cathedral offers a convenient access ramp into the facility that is adjacent to the parking area. Spaces are designated for special needs access.

Restaurants

A range of dining and coffee establishments are conveniently located southbound from the Cathedral in the blocks between Fifth and Forbes Avenues and a delicatessen is located northbound at the corner of Craig and Bayard.

Accommodations

The closest major hotel is the Holiday Inn located several blocks west of the Cathedral off of Fifth Avenue at Tennyson. There are other major hotels located approximately 1-1.5 miles further west in the Oakland section of the city. Several attractive bed and breakfast establishments are located further east off of Fifth Avenue in the Shadyside district.

Carnegie West Entrance

The Carnegie Museum complex located three short blocks south at Craig and Forbes offers a natural history and art museum with an extensive collection that is of interest to all ages, including dinosaurs, minerals and gems, Pennsylvania history, Egyptian tombs, arctic habitats, fine and modern art. The adjacent Carnegie Library is the region's largest public library.


Heinz Memorial Chapel

One and a half blocks west, the University of Pittsburgh features the spiritually uplifting Heinz Memorial Chapel, modeled after Saint Chappel in Paris. The adjacent 42 story gothic administration building for the University,christened "the Cathedral of Learning" by former Pittsburgh Cardinal John Wright, offers over 30 Nationality Classrooms that have accurate historical representations of classrooms from other lands. Within one mile south of the Saint Paul Cathedral at Schenley Drive, Phipps Conservatory and Botanical Garden offers a year round respite from whatever the weather is bringing. It is among the nation's oldest and largest Victorian glasshouse featuring 13 indoor rooms with lush tropical plants, palms, orchids and a miniature orchid collection, ferns and succulent plants, seasonal flower shows and butterflies as well as extensive outdoor gardens. Parking is adjacent to the facility on Schenley Drive between lanes.
